Variation on "OK, boomer." - Check!

I fail to see your point, though you did a good job of explaining why you think my points are wrong. I'm not going to go through and reply to all of your comments. I'll just say it again, anyone with an ounce of critical thinking skills can figure out that there is a very clear reason for this new awareness of the impact of art and culture.

I can see I must have hit a bit of a nerve for some of ya'll.

Sucks to be called out, eh? wink

1. Keep repeating a boilerplate phrase: "Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking...", instead of being frank and honest about what you mean. - Check!
2. Instead of discussing points, refer to others as too old - cuz we know that wisdom fades after one is 30, never gains. - Check!
3. Instead of discussing points, be pleased that you "hit a nerve" and thus won the debate - since it means the other debaters are the emos - Check!
4. Use "y'all." - Check!

Congratulations! You're an idiot! big grin

And actually, I like how you assume I'm young. I don't think I won any sort of debate--there never was a debate to begin with.

I just read the article and after careful consideration, it is my professional opinion that the author is, for lack of a better appellation, fucking Looney Tunes.

If wokeness wants to rob us of awesome film music, wokeness needs to die.

Also — seeing people referred to as “oriental” is one hell of a thing.

1) attacking the arguer, not the argument. Check!
2) Using "tard" as an attempt to be clever without realizing how dated it makes you sound. Check!
3) That same old "joke" about how useless college is. Check!
4) That same old "joke" about gender identity. Check!

Congrats! You're a boomer.

A boomer would say that.

See, this I can work with.

I agree that the article is bonkers but don't you think there is a shred of truth to how art borrows from other cultures without any sort of accountability? Should there be accountability? Does it really matter? Is it unfair to attack Star Wars exclusively for this when so many other artforms are indebted to each other? We acknowledge the relationship between blues, rock and roll, jazz, and religious hymnals, what about film scores?

Or we could just argue about ageism some more...

I 100% agree with you and applaud you for trying to make a good faith argument here — but unfortunately many members of this board are very stuck in their ways and any consideration that the world they grew up in may not be the way the world is now falls on deaf ears.

Acknowledging influence from various cultures, yes. Being accountable in the sense of accepting responsibility for that influence or borrowing? Not necessarily.

"Woke" Culture is frankly enough to make a cat laugh, and sane people really need to push back against these radicals.

If John Williams' Star Wars scores are "racist", then we need more racism in this world. Myself, I prefer film scores written by white men of European descent. Being Jewish is even better.

I also think it's unfortunate that Williams didn't score The Color Purple. I'm sure he would have come up with something more memorable than Quincy Jones did.

I'm not interested one iota having a "diverse" collection; I want scores at hand that I emotionally respond to.

Cultures should be free to integrate elements from other cultures and adapt and improve them as they see fit. That's how cultures grow and evolve. Cultural appropriation is a nonsensical idea.

I'm sure that most Westerners prefer, for example, Westernized "Chinese" Food compared to the real thing. Much in the same way, I have to say I prefer Williams' take on Irish or Asian music to the "real" thing.
