Ive always wanted to flip up the collar of my private detective raincoat, walk into a bar and say "Bourbon...on the rocks.." to the barman.

Even though i dont drink it.

In my noir movie, id more likely say "Oooh, do you serve tea here?" (Said in that tone where you fully expect a frosty glare and an emphatic no ...but they dont actually add 'Dont be silly, of course not!' Lol)

He, he....that's like The Phantom (you know, that comic book hero that is more popular over here than it ever was in its country of origin). When he goes into bars, he always orders milk. I always found that a funny, even when I passionately read the comics as a kid. Went against his very masculine, tough guy persona - but somehow still charming.

Hey Thor, have you got any suggestions about how to avoid the possible chaos of logging on and off every 40 minutes? For example, I can't guarantee I'll be there at the start, but I might try to break in at some point during the first or second session. Then at the break(s) I'll be going down to the wine cellar, which can take ages. Others will be searching for milk in the fridge. Will you still be able to relax into things? For us lot it's okay - it'll be like sneaking into the pub underage, but you're the host, a drinking participant, the doorman and the bouncer all rolled into one.

Surely you meant...

Thor: The best moderator in the world.

Probably.

BTW, The Phantom is hugely popular with Jim Phelps.* The Phantom comic strip ran in my local newspaper for decades; I still have some of the old clippings. I especially enjoyed the flashback adventures of previous Phantoms—all that universe building!

No worries. You just click the link when you're ready, and I'll let you in -- whether it's in the 40-minute breaks, or right in the middle of a session.

I've been thinking about a way to solve the 40-minute problem. I'm guessing Stephen has his Premium Zoom account covered through work, I don't know. But I would need to pay $15 a month for a Premium account (to avoid the time limit), and I just can't afford that at the moment. I was thinking to 'air' a suggestion for the Cheers regulars -- i.e. if everyone chipped in with $5 or something (paid through Paypal), we could possibly cover 2-3 months of Premium with unlimited time. In turn, I would promise to host 1-2 meetings per month. But I don't like to ask for such things, and people would probably flee anyway, so I've been very reluctant to even air the suggestion.

Good to know! Next to Disney stuff, he was my primary go-to comic book guy during my childhood and teens. I had hundreds of Phantom comics. The original Lee Falk stuff, obviousy, but even more contemporary artists like Hans Lindahl and Jaime Valvée.

By the way, I've just stockpiled my fridge with beer - from Japanese to Belgian to Norwegian to American! Looking forward to sharing my picks with you tonight.

You're so "drink" you can't spell "drunk!"

And I can't spell either "drink" or "drunk" in Norwegian, so you are light years ahead of me!

Don't worry Thor. You did good. I couldn't even remember the question.

What was the answer?

A big "cheers" to all who appeared and disappeared. I suppose one of the advantages of the 40-minitlimit is that one could just exit gracefully, and pass out/away without any big hullabaloo.

Thanks to everyone for another thoroughly enjoyable evening. Again, I came away with my lack of knowledge in some areas being exposed. But I also felt a keen enthusiasm to revisit all my 70s music.

Yep, it was very enjoyable, with a nice colour, a good long finish and hints of dark fruit - and definitely good with roasted meats. The chat wasn’t bad either.

Usually you are usually cajoling people to go for another 40 minutes, and another 40 minutes, and maybe another. But when you just went to close the chat it was clear that you had reached some sort of limit.

There were many laughs to be had. I loved the bit when some Scottish guy (Falkirk Bairn?) accused OnyaBirri of being an 'agent provocateur' with many of his supposedly innocent thread titles and comments, while really knowing all along that he was deliberately alienating the rest of us here, who only listen to film music!

You (Falkirk Bairn, if he be you) came across as uncharacteristically harsh and embittered in that outburst. Poor old Onya was flailing, trying to defend himself. I hope he didn't feel insulted. There's a genuinely nice - and intelligent - guy, hiding behind that facade.

More "moments of tension" like that are to be encouraged, as long as they don't hurt anyone's feelings.
