I can never trust a word you say Watt. wink
You lie more than me lol

Nevertheless, if you had listened to me earlier in the week, you wouldn't have spent the whole evening trying to get into the meeting. On Thursday.

I had another great time at the happy hour. Thanks to everyone for participating and to Thor for organizing. I think this was the largest Cheers meeting I have attended. I am looking forward to the next meeting.

Also, great job everyone with the music. Let me know when you are ready to record, and I can clear my dog's schedule. wink

There were many laughs to be had. I loved the bit when some Scottish guy (Falkirk Bairn?) accused OnyaBirri of being an 'agent provocateur' with many of his supposedly innocent thread titles and comments, while really knowing all along that he was deliberately alienating the rest of us here, who only listen to film music!

Whoever that Scottish guy was, he can be grateful that my vision was blurred by that point, rendering it impossible for me to see his face or read his name.

Graham, I know you're in my corner. If you ever find out who this Scottish guy is, maybe you and I can write a letter to BSX Records and Tapes, and try to get him banned from the message board.

The “radio voice guys” were interesting; very nice fellows, too. BillCarson is a bundle of hilarious energy. It’s always an honor being slagged by Thomas of Norn Iron; he’d make a fine moderator as he seems genuinely interested in what everyone has to say.

The highlight of the evening for me was Bill’s “Moy nayme’s Wilsawn!” Carson rules. smile

There were a duo of Belgians who slipped away quickly, so I wasn’t introduced to them, as I showed up late. frown

It was a larger gathering this time around, so topics—at least my topics— died quick deaths or were otherwise laughed off, which was a shame. Nothing against anyone there—everyone was really nice, actually—but I fare better within smaller groups, so this meeting was not really my element.

Great session last night. Onya, I think I managed to single handedly de-rail your brilliant topic about British composers as soon as I mentioned the Prisoner and we went off on another tangent! Sorry about that.

I suspect the frequency of topic shifts increased along with numbers of drinks consumed smile

Lovely to hear some great stories and meet a few new faces. There's always something fun and fascinating to talk about. Love it.

Yikes, I'm ridiculously hung over today. Not so strange, since I drank for 9 hours straight! There's a big plastic bag of empty bottles and cans in my hallway -- all from a single night! big grin

But loved last night's session. You're right that we were a bigger group than usual, but we're still nowhere near the amount of Stephen's meetings. I think there are benefits to both bigger and smaller groups, and I'm sure the numbers will fluctuate from session to session. I noticed that we occasionally lost a few people in the 40-minute breaks (Onya, for example, disappeared relatively quickly).

It's tricky to balance the flow of conversation. There are some who'd rather not speak about films or film music, and there are others who ONLY want to speak about film and film music. So the trick is to get a little bit of both. I cut off the UK television composer talk after it had gone on for quite some time, because I know it's of limited interest to our Belgian members, for example. Vice versa, I had to cut the 'everyday banter' short a few times because I suspected newcomers like Bill and Jim perhaps were more interested in the film/music stuff. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

In any case, the next meeting will probably be in early December. So be sure to bring your Christmas ales or other seasonal beverages!

I had to leave for a meeting, and I kept trying to tell you guys, but I couldn't get a word in. wink

I did come back for the last few hours, didn't I? wink

Could be. As usual, I don't remember anything from the last two hours or so.

I'm pretty sure I came back. Does anyone remember?

Onya returned, because Thor asked that I text him to return!

What interests me is interesting discussion, regardless of the subject. ErikWoods and BigJimWilson told some fascinating tales, and who wouldn’t be impressed by Howard L’s recitation of The Odd Couple opening voiceover? I get the sneaking suspicion “uncle” Howard is part Felix Unger, part Martin Sloan. wink

I wish I’d jumped in earlier, as I missed out on introductions. I tend to take my time getting involved with the conversations, so that I may get the flow of the discussion. I felt a few steps behind, and I know I was sober, because I only nursed a pint and a half of beer over three hours!

It's always a good idea to have a drink or two BEFORE the actual meeting. I'm usually a few beers in when we start. But I realize that's difficult for you guys over the pond, as it's much earlier in the day for you. On the other hand, when we logged off yesterday, it was 2AM here, while you can continue the 'party' for a few hours still. I'm always envious of that.

Martin Sloane was mentioned. How popular was that show in the US? I am not sure that it made it to the UK. But the music I have heard is excellent.

To be fair i thought the balance of films/scores chat and beers/wines was about right. You guys touched on what you were drinking but it never dragged.

Some of the guys are old friends from Stephen's zoom, like TG n Graham n Big Jim (Slade?) and erik ("Samuel L Bronkowitz presents...") Woods and Thor and Howard Lemmon so i felt at home, but it was nice to "meet" Thomas from football thread (who im gonna call Tommy Two Times like that guy in Goodfellas who says everything twice, coz when Thomas says something in his irish accent everybody says Pardon? And he has to say it again! Lol. smile
...and Onya the ennio fan and big shout out to phelpsie, who is a funny guy. Honestly if he ever rattles your crossbar on the forum with gentle ribbing, trust me, it is just banter. Hes a good guy.

I’m not sure it even made the top 30, which is the barometer of popularity of US TV. The Twilight Zone must have made a bigger impression in syndication or in the memory of those who watched it circa 1959-64.

Almost finished with S5. There are some classic episodes, but the show by that point was imo running on fumes (“Black Leather Jackets”, anyone?)

Much appreciated, Bill; though my wife thinks I should come with a Surgeon General’s warning.

I consider it a supreme compliment to be slagged by our Thomas; he has a cutting wit. In a previous outing, he had a great Apocalypse Now reference about my room having a ceiling fan, and you of all people should know of my obsession with that film. Sometimes I forget not everyone lives in a sub-tropical environment, so my surroundings may seem “exotic” to some in (Hell into) Belfast.

Tommy Two Times, I like that! I've often wondered if people can make out what I'm saying on our chats, going by the vacant stares sometimes. Now I know! It was good to meet you as well Bill, I enjoyed your whistling along with Thor's harp playing!

As for your exotic surroundings Phelpsie, you live in Florida. A swampwink

It was good to see everyone again, though I remember why I don't drink Jack Daniels that often judging how I felt yesterday. I look forward to our Christmas meet up.

Whatever Thomas paid for that accent, he sure got his money’s worth!

Actually, I understood every word thanks to my having watched nearly every episode of Give My Head Peace.
