Imagine what a frenzy the world media could do if godzilla popped up in the sea of japan? I wonder if somewhere a producer would try n get him on a chat show? It seems the question is not if you can avoid catching it, but how long will it be before you do?

Ive had to shut off my news feed. Every story in the top ten stories is a corona virus heading with scaremongering and hysteria the theme throughout. The media everywhere should hang their heads in fkn shame, they have literally bathed in stirring shit.

Ive had to shut off my news feed. Every story in the top ten stories is a corona virus heading with scaremongering and hysteria the theme throughout. The media everywhere should hang their heads in fkn shame, they have literally bathed in stirring shit. THIS! The agenda of the "American" media is quite obvious in this whole thing. What gives me the reda$$ is the attention to the folks who've contracted coronavirus. They might as well publish their names, addresses, family members, etc.! I dread that some of these folks will be regarded as "Typhoid Marys", even in this day of supposed enlightenment. When all this is over, I'd love to see the "media" held to account for all the misery, panic and hysteria that they've been largely inciting! Warning folks is one thing, but inciting panic? Where's Howard Beale when you need him? I was very much in your camp Jackfu a weeks ago and put a few posts on here very much along the same line as yours. However, after speaking to some friends in Italy, I have to say that whilst I still feel that the press havent helped the situation, and have been irresponsible at times, I do think this could be much more serious that was first put out there and actually the press in England are not reporting just how bad things are in Italy. I can only presume they have shown restraint in this because they genuinely would panic people. Given that we have a bigger population than Italy packed into an area about the third of the size of Italy, this could spread very quickly here and I must say I am much more concerned than before

My outrage is aimed at the media and the difference in their coverage of coronavirus vs others: 2009/10 - H1N1 (Swine flu) - >60,000,000 Americans infected, ~20,000 deaths. How much media hysteria and panic? Flu kills 30,000 per year, how much media hysteria and panic? I get it, we haven't seen the end of this yet, it may be more contagious, more easily contracted, etc., but have you noticed how little attention the actual death toll is getting?

This sense of panic--whether warranted or not--reminds me of hurricane season here in Florida, when people go nuts stockpiling supplies while watching the news almost constantly. Stay informed, follow the hygiene guidelines, but don't camp in front of the TV or computer watching news for hours at a time. Exactly, and it seems to me, but I haven't looked at "The Metrics" really, but I'd swear that the viewership numbers are inversely proportional to the hype level. Edit: Okay, now I'm really getting ticked! Grocery stores, Dept. stores, etc. with whom I do online and in-store shopping are now bombarding me with emails about how coronavirus savvy and prepped they are, sanitation (that's ok) and supply-wise (not ok!)! If I didn't know better, I'd say they come off as exploitative (Cockney accent)! These people are just asking for a Jackfu Spoof Song! - I mean it!!!
