Any reason for the delay in releasing the track listings? Just seems that at this point, on the verge of release with all i's dotted and t's crossed that there wouldn't be any reason to announce the album but not the tracks. Of course my frustration is born out of pure excitement for this release, which I will likely grab pretty soon. Should be a real gem. Read your post and you will find that you have answered your own question! Normally the track list is posted when the release goes up for sale. In this case we are partnering with The Second Disc and posting three days early. Mike M.

We're getting the track list early and people are complaining that we don't already have it. Score fans, man. Score fans. And when they get the track list they'll complain about the track list. Its their way.

In this case we are partnering with The Second Disc and posting three days early. Mike M. I was 17 years old when the film was released and as a Williams fan of course I bought the LP the second it came out, well before the movie. Just as I had done before with Superman and Empire. And just as with those films, when the titles came up I watched and waited for the music I’d come to love already in the two weeks prior. With E.T. (as with Raiders), the film from the very start didn’t quite sound like the “ta da” opening of the soundtrack. The elements were all there but it was quite clear that the music you heard in the theater wasn’t what was on the record. I loved both, but it was an adjustment to know the two things were distinct. A decade or so later, the expanded E.T. soundtrack allowed me to hear the music as it was associated with Elliott’s bedroom, and Gerty, and the very smell of those cotton balls dooming the frogs in biology class. But then... it was different from “E.T. and Me” and the other special arrangements I’d fallen for separately. I’ve waited a very long time for that record I listened to right before the movie came out, and the “real” music from the movie, to meet in the middle and touch fingers. I trust that that moment is about to happen. Be good.

We're getting the track list early and people are complaining that we don't already have it. Score fans, man. Score fans. And when they get the track list they'll complain about the track list. Its their way. Or they'll complain that Giacchino writes pun track titles. I notice Richard Markowitz or somebody connected to 'Wild, Wild West' was also quite the punster. As was Alexander Courage (eg. Max's Factor / When Your Eyes Have Turned to Silver / Situation Grave / Nancy Schmancy / The Unreal McCoy / Brass Monkeys / Captain's Wig etc). So if anything, Giacchino was merely continuing a grand tradition on his Trek scores! [This is up topic however, so, er...] E.T. is exciting isn't it! Eagerly awaiting the track titles...

Hmm. Interesting layout, with "The Kiss" appearing on disc two. For all the complaining I do when they combine tracks, now I'm confused by the separation of the finale cues into two tracks!

Quote fro "The Second Disc" site In this 2CD set you’ll find: The original film score, newly mixed, mastered and edited by John Williams’ longtime soundtrack producer Mike Matessino, alongside original engineer/album producer Bruce Botnick. The original soundtrack album, newly transferred in hi-resolution from the original analog master tapes. (This new master will also feature in the upcoming 35th anniversary Blu-ray/4K box set due this month.) Seven alternate and partially unreleased takes from the original scoring sessions. One brief but previously unheard cue, “The Levitation,” intended to score a deleted scene featuring Harrison Ford in an uncredited cameo as a school principal. The CD debut of Williams’ original suite of music for the Universal Studios theme park ride E.T. Adventure, recorded in 1990. The package is rounded out with liner notes by Matessino on the creation of the score and a booklet by designer Jim Titus, including newly designed cover approved by the director. Limited to 5,000 copies, this is a release Williams fans will want to phone home about!
