I have no idea how to do all that space-age, techno mumbo-jumbo to transfer missing music from one virtual arena to another.
But I know a man who can!

If I may be a voice of reason: There is nothing wrong with ripping isolated music tracks from a laserdisc or a DVD transferring them to .wav files, etc. And that is a satisfactory alternative for any connoisseur. I have never been impressed by those kinds of things, personally. But again, it is a good way to get the music and more power to you! But there is nothing better than hearing music taken from a first generation master tape with all the sparkling, gorgeous detail, and then assembled into a first rate album. And that is always a better way to hear these scores whenever possible.

Your average film score fan has the tools and the know-how to extract audio files from DVDs or Blu-rays? And I suppose they also know how to expertly balance volume fluctuations and cleanly complete truncated cues?

I don't know what the average film score fan can and can't do. But I do know that what digitalfreaknyc is talking about is not listening to a laserdisc in his home with pauses between the music (he is a digital freak, after all). And your premise was that "the music was level and intact," so no fluctuations or truncations in that scenario.

In any event, I have the tools and know-how, but I generally don't have the will. So I am looking forward to this CD, which will also certainly have music not used in the film (we know there are variations), and thus not on that laserdisc, which I haven't owned in a decade anyway.

My only point is, the civilization-destroying scenario you were describing isn't what digitalfreaknyc was talking about.

My point wasn't what digitalfreak could or could not do with an isolated score and computer wizardry, but what the average film score fan could reasonably be expected to do with an isolated score. Because that's the original premise that was posited here: that expansions of isolated scores are pointless because the isolated score is there for everyone to enjoy. And my comment about what planet these folks are from pertains directly to the absurdity of expecting everyone to be perfectly contented with enjoying a film score in isolated DVD or laser disc form, however they may be capable of doing so. (Again, nothing to do with digitalfreak's personal technological capabilities.)

(Also, I did mention film edits and volume fluctuations in my first post wink )

Haha, argue all you like!

I think we probably do hold the same views on all this. I believe you may have just misunderstood what my first post was regarding.

Schiffy, you're always the voice of reason. And Tango, you always inspire like in my Completing a collection thread!

You are too kind, sir. Schiffy did not misunderstand your post. The hyperbole was not lost on him. He just wanted to argue for arguments sake. He tries hard to be the voice of reason on this board, yet succeeds only part of the time.

Concerning the recent posts, I'll say it again: this is not the place to be the voice of dissent regarding this truly wonderful release; nor to play devil's advocate (Schiffy) for the buffoons who mock the joy we are experiencing upon hearing the news.

Are Reese's Pieces expensive? Those all look Photoshopped in.

Surely somebody said, hey, while we're making this image, why don't we enjoy some.

I think I'm losing my vision. All track listings on the back are unintelligible. Sigh, I knew this day would come. That's ok. At least I'll still have my ears to enjoy the music.
