Let's try Arnold Bax again....

It doesn't sound like Bax at all.

Sounds very 'Broadway'. Certainly very American. And I feel like I heard it before (which is possible).
There's even a bit in there that sounds like Gershwin's 2nd Rhapsody, but obviously it isn't. It's not Grofe or (Vernon) Duke's concerti either.
But probably of the same era.

I thought David Shire when I heard it - so that fits in with Broadway and American.

A clew. It's not as old as you think. I don't believe this composer ever had anything on Broadway. And the composer is not American.

I thought it sounded more English, and from Hainshisway's previous I am more confident of English than American, but I am stumped : (

English is correct, and the composer has a tie to a previous mystery track's composer smile

So is it one of the 'piano concerto from the movies' type pieces? I suppose that could be why it sounds familiar.

Not written for the movies but yes a piano concerto. The composer certainly has written for the movies. smile

I am going for Howard Blake, he worked with Laurie Johnson on the Avengers, and it sounds a bit like him, but I know very little about his music outside of The Duellists and (!) The Snowman.

Ding, ding, ding - the marvelous Howard Blake. If you don't know his piano and violin concertos they are well worth hearing. And he wrote a great score for the film Agatha that was thrown out. Fortunately, I have it smile

I'll post a new clip tomorrow. I think we need our two fellows who posted the clips that weren't guessed to come back and give clews or answers.

That can only be François de Roubaix.

I think it's from Dernier Domicile Connu

It took me a good long while to get with this composer's serious music, but I have and I really enjoy it.

I'm curious why Humphrey Searle's 'absolute' music had a long digestion process with haineshisway. Was this because of the composer's 12-tone vernacular?

Confirmed. A suite appears on François de Roubaix Anthologie Vol. 2.

I won't be posting clips (at this time, at any rate), so please go ahead and post another.
Consider something by those composers whose discographies are rather meager ...
