so this is likely an abrupt ending not an error.

The CD player stops playing in mid note. A properly mastered CD doesn't simply cease playing during the music. Even if the music itself ends abruptly, there should be a run off of silence for a couple of seconds. Not in this case.

Indeed, I've just checked the "unmentionable" and the same track ends correctly with the final note fully intact, followed by a few seconds of silence, not chopped off in mid note like my La-La Land CD. Judging by the sound characteristics of this track, both discs use the same source, but one plays properly and one doesn't.

Addition: I've just checked the La-La Land audio file in Peak 6 and the end point has been set incorrectly.

My primary musical memory of the film -- it's been a long time -- is the Elgar First Symphony. (No shame in that!) Was this musical reference part of Scott's musical plan or was it something imposed from without? Does the record reflect the same usage as the ST?

Presentational issues aside, is there anything to be said about this musical question?

You're right it does cut off in what sounds like a quick fade out, but not in such as way that bothers me.

I have no idea if this was intentional or a mistake. If it's deliberate, perhaps it's because the final track is bonus material and not part of the LP presentation; if it's a genuine mistake as you suggest, I doubt there'll be a repressing of all 3000 copies for a relatively minor annoyance. Only MV can address it properly. One thing for sure, it wasn't for lack of disc space. smile

My memory of the interview is hazy, but I recall Scott saying at the time that he was asked to incorporate the Elgar, and that it replaced some original scoring he had done.

So you're asking this message board if you should buy the only legal version or stick with an illegal bootleg, and expect a serious answer?

Unfortunately, it's the legal version that shuts down while the music is still playing. If I'd made a CDR that plays like that, I'd consider it a coaster and toss it in the trash.

Ha Ha a serious answer. YES!!!!!!! To a question I didnt ask. Thats how you get things done.

I have another question. Its about the snake pit, should I buy the bootleg.
The answer I am hoping for is? And it has to do with the sound of the Varese cd- just a clue.

Thanks. Does the album include the original, the Elgar, or both?

Its just an adaption of his music. It was supposed to represent the Greystoke Estate in the movie.
John Scott did write more original music, but the film makers wanted something classical.

My own solution for the prematurely-faded end credit track was to load it into Audacity, slice out a duplicate of the last five seconds, reverse it, give it it's own fade and lay it over the end of the track, thereby extending the last cadence by a further 3 or 4 seconds. It worked beautifully and this way I didn't have to fool with no dang unmentionable at all.

Yankee ingenuity. big grin

For sure! And if you ever make your way down to So Cal, mi casa es tu casa.

I must admit, though, I can't nail down the quote.

Greed... line in question by Kirk Douglas? Right before he gets up out of his wheelchair and walks out the door?

Gave this another spin after watching the movie (probably been decades since I last saw it). Lovely score. Great recording. Wish there was more of the score included but what there is is spectacular. I miss this kind of writing. Scott was clearly informed by some of Bartok's late works which is great to hear.

Agreed, I revisited the film a couple of months ago - its still a great film, sumptuously made and sparkling in HD, really quite an engrossing watch.

I dug out my Warner LP after and have played it several times since. I never thought to buy the CD all those years ago.

My comment might sound pointless; however –

If – “Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves” – can get a special three CD release (due to the fact that it could have easily fit on three CDs)…
Then – within a couple of years – more missing elements were located… (somehow)…

Then I guess – it wouldn’t be asking for a little bit of hope – that perhaps – some missing elements could be located from this epic score – if only…
…the – score tracks – from the first half of the movie – before the film goes into – “civilization” mode… (?)

Then again – given the amount of replies this thread received... maybe this score isn't as popular... very sad indeed!

Apparently Scott owns the music and tapes and is very protective of this score. My guess is that u Unless he releases this on his own label we must be content with this release which still is outstanding.
