It says "WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE" at LA LA LAND.

I have seen that before but now I'm curious.
So LA LA LAND could not accept an order from someone?
Ok. Maybe a stupid question but I have to ask smile

Sure, why not?

I'm tempted to get this one, but not this week due to a lack of money. How fast do people think this might sell out? Is it likely to still be available for order in a week or two?

None of the Varese Clubs have sold out yet (not even the 1000-copy LP reissues), even after being available for two days now. I think you're safe for the time being.

3000? Yeah, this one'll be around for a loooong while, me thinks.

Thanks Matt. That's a real bummer he wasn't involved. I know he really wanted that music out when we spoke about it years ago.

James

He has his own label (JOS) and maybe would have preferred to wait until the expanded release he wanted was possible? Perhaps he sees this release as something that makes a subsequent, expanded version less viable. Just guessing of course.
But unless it was for some reason like that, why would someone who has gone to great lengths to get his own music on CD not want to play any part in the release of one of his best scores?

The La-La Land response might be more revealing at second glance:
It doesn't simply say "We did reach out to Mr. Scott but he was respectfully not interested in participating".
Rather, it specifically states "We did reach out to Mr. Scott AFTER WE SECURED FULL RIGHTS FOR THIS REISSUE, but he was respectfully not interested in participating".

Ordered and already received the shipping confirmation. This has been one my holy grails ever since I lost my record version of it years ago. Well, not so much lost but didn't keep my record player so there wasn't any point in keeping it around as it was badly worn from so many plays.

Hmmm....we all know of MV's love for monkeys and La-La has just released a John Scott title...

Could we see a release of "King Kong Lives" in the not too distant future? Please?

We did reach out to Mr. Scott after we secured full rights for this reissue, but he was respectfully not interested in participating. Luckily, while WB had no additional elements for an expansion, they had the album master for the LP, so we went ahead with that and the two bonus tracks we were able to secure. James Nelson made it sound great and we're excited to get Mr. Scott's great score back out there... and finally on CD.

Why don´t composers want to participate in getting their work to an appreciative audience?

It can´t be a question of money - since one would at least get something from a CD release instead of nothing at all from sitting on the rights to a property that otherwise won´t get picked up again.

There is a reason from what I hear from Mr. Scott which will become pretty clear down the road. That's all I will say for now. Until then, enjoy LaLaLand's fantastic new release.

Taking a wild stab here... JOS Records will be issuing their own CD of Greystoke?

Maybe a re-recording, like the Anthony and Cleopatra disc?
But in the meantime, I now have the La-La Land CD and it's very good. Much improved sound over the old unofficial one I had.

Of the two additional tracks, the bonus Overture is in good quality sound, but the bonus Closing (End Titles) suffers from a wavering, poorer sound.

I also notice that on my copy the CD finishes playing without a run off, the player shutting down before the final note of the second bonus track is completed. Has anyone else noticed this?
