I'm happy with the excellent Gerhardt suite.

You know, I was going to say the same thing, as long as it's not a discouraging word. I want this Waxman to be a smash, along with DIAL M FOR MURDER, and let the good times roll.

And I do feel the old film score lust for these titles, but we all have limited resources to spread around.

I have acquired a few of these acetate recordings:

ON DANGEROUS GROUND
THE THING
LOST HORIZON

I listen to the retevordings almost exclusively.

This really is wonderful news. A big thank you to LLL and everyone involved in making this release possible.

I would have been content if this was a Black Friday release alone, already looking forward to October’s announcement.

For really old scores, the great thing about retevordings smile is the leap in sound quality.

But to be clear, the original BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN is an exciting prospect, and quite a temptation. It wouldn't be coming from La La Land if it wasn't a peach.

As opposed to a lemon? Intrada's THE HEIRESS came from a pretty poor source, and sometimes you can't make lemonade from lemons, no matter how much sugar you use. I'm hoping this isnt the case here or they wouldn't have made it an event.

I think even if the previously known sources were used, probably the technical approach was different.
I mean, there are some softwares that deal with audio flaws and limitations with more precision and are capable of restore and enhance of what about a decade ago wasn't.

As example, the Disney's The Silly Symphony Collection 1929 - 1939 LP set from 2015. I don't own it but on YouTube, a sample from a 1933 cartoon is available, it sounds more clear and sharp than the audio in their DVD set released long ago.

And with the years of expertise from Mike Matessino its sure will be an excellent release.

This is a tremendous announcement!

In reference to potential sources - didn't the Universal music department re-record BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN cues to use as library track for their countless serials around the late 30's? Did any of that material survive? If it did, it might be used to supplement the acetates perhaps?

It makes one wonder if any other 1930's scores from Universal managed to elude destruction - WEREWOLF OF LONDON (Karl Hajos), THE INVISIBLE MAN (Heinz Roemheld), DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (Heinz Roemheld), THE BLACK CAT (Roemheld adapting classical) and, of course, THE INVISIBLE RAY (Franz Waxman).

Such a rich but mostly forgotten roster of film music excellence!

As a kid watching Universal's first classic Flash Gordon serial, it wasn't just the visuals that enthralled me. It definitely was the music also.

My wife and I are going. We'll take in the Sleepy Hollow cemetery - home of the headless horseman - before going over to the music hall. This is usually a west coast type of event. So glad that La La Land is now a sponsor of the Sleepy Hollow Film Festival. I cannot wait!

Indeed they did ! Les Preludes most notably, but there was other music also. Ming's soldiers marching through tunnels as an example.

What's with all those German composers at Universal?!

Carl Laemmle and his family came from Germany and founded Universal. I'm sure some homeland loyalty was involved. The Laemmle's were very big on nepotism. Carl S. gave control of the studio to his son, who lost them money in short order and wound up losing the company. That's why the early horror films were classy kind of art films while the late 30's into the 40's had them ground out as programmers. The New Universal was just a movie factory.
