Yeah, broken jewel cases happen, that's not a big deal. Naxos' handling of their vinyl titles, however, is negligent at best.

We've had the "DOA jewel case" discussion many times before so it shouldn't be a surprise topic, but I still find it ironic that there's always some people who complain about the complainers. Shouldn't they themselves have something better to do? wink

Btw, ROBOCOP 2 sounds great, as well as RAGGEDY MAN.

According to DMD a couple of years back regarding how Varese stuff is shipped:

"all future orders will be fulfilled by Naxos Of America in Tennessee."

Kentucky is next door, so a distinct possibility?

Ok thanks. That’s probably what it is. Looks like I’m gonna owe some dues on this one. $24 ouch!

Varese has informed me orders are shipping and yours may have already shipped but their notify system and tracking is not working properly.

For those suggesting buying replacement jewel cases in bulk to compensate for Naxos shit packaging.
The issue isn’t just about cracked cases, yes they can be replaced, the issue is the fact the liner notes and any other supplementary printed material can get damaged by the shards of broken plastic in the case. Not to mention scratches to the discs.

If you live in America you may just end up with a slight cracked case, which is great, just swap it out with a spare. However if you are an international customer, that slight damage is exacerbated when enduring the tribulations of international travel.

I guess it is one of those things that it may seem trivial when it doesn’t happen to you. Try having a package of smashed goods with your hard earned money and poor customer service from VS, then tell me you are not pissed off.

Incidentally the rare times, (and I mean rare), that I have had damaged goods from Intrada or Lalalandrecords they have been fantastic in sorting out the issue. The thing is Intrada and Lalalandrecords think of the customer and pack well for international delivery so they are already ahead of the curve. Naxo Jiffy bags for international posting? C’mon FFS!

Except as others have said, it's not JUST Naxos. I've had 100s of cases arrived cracked or with teeth missing or whatever over the years. And it's not just the local post person as it's been across multiple places of residence. I almost can't even believe anyone who said it almost never happens to them unless they only every have bought from a very small pool of retailers who just happened to use extreme packaging.

Hell I just today got one with a crack on the front.

Also, if the liner notes or CDs are damaged (as a result of a broken case), that's another story. But that happens far less often.

I live in the UK and while I've had CDs arrive from Intrada, LLL and VS arrive with broken cases in the past, I've never had this damage either the disc or the booklets etc. Not to say that it couldn't happen, but it's pretty unlikely to happen in practice in my experience.

The case thing is annoying but happens across the board. Like others, I've bought a stock of cases to use as required.

I didn't get any shipping emails from Varese/Naxos, but RAGGEDY MAN arrived in the UK today. Happily there was no Customs/Royal Mail charge (under £18 value, as it was the only CD I ordered, and delivered by DHL rather than Royal Mail). Unpadded corrugated cardboard packaging, but the case is uncracked and a gentle shake reveals nothing loose or broken inside. I won't be unsealing it until I'm ready to listen to it.

Hooray! Delivery to the UK from Varese without any customs charges.

Except instead of Robocop 2 they’ve sent Raggedy Man! Rather bummed to say the least been looking forward to hearing Robo 2 since ordering. I hope they will not charge me return postage to the US and make me wait until this is returned first!

Now to try out Varese’s customer service and hope Robo 2 isn’t sold out in the meantime.

John.

Wow that is cool those in UK are already getting their orders!

Fingers crossed my order delivers today. No tracking or updates but if it shows up unannounced that is cool.

Ordered Raggedy Man / Robocop 2 and finally the John Williams Dracula Deluxe

Better you get Raggedy Man by accident instead of Robocop 2 than the other way around, when Raggedy Man is sold out and they may not be able to replace it! Seems like maybe you just got a free super rare Goldsmith CD, which if you don't want you can probably resell at quite the markup (or be nice to one of the people here who missed out, and sell it to them at your cost).

I very much doubt Robocop 2 will sell out soon.

Mistakes happen, not angry just very disappointed. We’ll see how good their customer service is, have emailed them. Fingers crossed!
