Ah, 1992. Unforgiven is the movie of the year -- nothing else even comes close, unless I'm forgetting something great. Especially surprising given that I'm indifferent to some of Eastwood's other acclaimed films. After that the ordering of my list is nearly arbitrary: a bunch of good 4-star pictures, it was difficult to rank them and the order would probably turn out quite differently on another day. Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood) The Crying Game (Neil Jordan) Passion Fish (John Sayles) The Player (Robert Altman) Strictly Ballroom (Baz Luhrmann) Into the West (Mike Newell) Porco Rosso (Hayao Miyazaki) Glengarry Glen Ross (James Foley) The Story of Qiu Ju (Zhang Yimou) My Cousin Vinny (Jonathan Lynn) Other notable films: A Midnight Clear, One False Move, Howards End, The Last of the Mohicans, Malcolm X, Of Mice and Men, Reservoir Dogs, Wayne's World, Enchanted April, Sneakers, Waterland, Hard Boiled, Chaplin, Bob Roberts, A Heart in Winter, El Mariachi, A River Runs Through It, Thunderheart, Aladdin, Indochine, A Leauge of Their Own, Manufacturing Consent, White Men Can't Jump, Scent of a Woman, Lorenzo's Oil, Orlando, Batman Returns, A Few Good Men, Candyman, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Bad Lieutenant What are your favorites of the year? What have I missed? What should I check out? Freejack, didn't your namesake come out in '92? And it's not on your list? I'm appalled.
