The Oscar committee really would have to decide upon the ultimate tough question: "who is your favorite victim of historical atrocity?"

Wouldn't that be us, if we see Zimmer and Gustavo up for nomination?

TBH Zimmer is better than gas rooms. Gustavo, on the other hand ...

Sounds as interchangeable as a dozen other John Williams' scores, just not as passionate or 'good.'

The one thing I don't get about John Williams: why not just enjoy a happy retirement if all he does now is rehashing his old stuff? It's not that he needs the paychecks or the Oscar cool credit at this stage of his career.

But maybe to him, writing this kind of music is as easy and relaxing as fishing. Maybe he's just treating this as a grandpa hobby. I don't know.

Wow, I couldn't disagree from you more. And how on earth can you judge this score based on samples alone? Seriously?

I think his Spielberg scores lately are among his worst, strictly from a "How many times can he trot out the same old Coplandisms" standpoint (let's not even get into the temp track bleedthrough), but even still, even boxed-in Williams sounds better than most everything else out there.

Maybe for the same reason you choose to express your under-informed, faux-intellectual opinions as fact. He just enjoys it.

JW's recent Spielberg scores sure to seem to divide people.

I loved WAR HORSE but not LINCOLN
Was greatly disappointed in CRISTAL SKULL( but loved the FILM!)
didn't care for TERMINAL. MUNICH.
really liked WAR OF THE WORLDS, AI & MINORITY REPORT

If parroting what I already said (about his grandpa hobby) makes you feel "intelligent," then by all means go for it smile

But, but, Spillberg's recent output has been mediocre, if not terribad, as well. Not sure they deserve anything but recycled overnight soup.

Agree that Williams' overnight soup is miles above the best of many other composers though.

It's more of a complaint against his Adventure of Warhorse of Lincoln, none of which is among his best.

But seriously, I'm enough of a fan of Williams that I know where he's going even when I only hear a 30-second sample.
