It's nice to be a handful of miles away from La-La Lands offices!

You know it! Received copies of Hook and The Robe today and spinning Hook as I type. Wonderful. Just wonderful.

I'm a bit confused about the Ultimate War cue. The first part on the new release sounds slightly different in places than the one on the old release. Different take?

Also I was a bit disappointed that the film version of the fanfare that accompanies Pan's arrival at Hook's ship (where he cuts the sail) is not present.

There's also a rather jarring 'repeat' at 5:29 which I don't remember from the original album.

Another little loop is pretty obvious in 'Sword Fight' around 4:46.

Or am I imagining things?

Oh, and why is Hook's Blues in the bonus tracks section? Is that one of the cues that 'break up' the flow of the album according to Williams?

Other than this, I'm in heaven.

The film version when pan arrives is one of 2 inserts not on the release and the 5:29 loop was on the ost too.

I got my order today. I have to say the booklets fit inside in cases reasonably! (Some releases they were rather tight) and the print job on these booklets etc are really well done.

Listening to HOOK now on my Sennheiser headphones and the sound is really good. I forgot how good the score was compared to ...well the film.

somebody said that the fanfare that was in the film (when Pan revealed himself) and should in the cue THE ULTIMATE WAR (track title on OST) was not on the album.

THIS PIECE WAS AN INSERT - 2 was written (original and alternate) - If I remember correctly JW usually just recorded the inserts and inserted them into the film breaking up the music there thus preserving the original cue as heard in the film with a little extention included here and there, Or am i wrong?

Anyway that could be a reason to while is not on the track

If you want i can create a MIDI of this INSERT for 13m2 which is the cue number.

Wow, I'm really enjoying Hook! I love the sound quality and most interesting to me is to hear all the wonderful unused music in a movie that already had a ton of music in the film. Remarkable to me the quality, quantity, specificity and variety of Williams' score, something I already knew but which is really driven home with this release. An amazing artistic achievement on the part of Williams and I'm very grateful to have such a complete representation of it!

Spinning The Robe right now. I've never heard the Varese release to compare, but LLL's sounds great, and the artwork is gorgeous. Can't wait to dive into the liner notes to learn more about this film and score that I've never seen or heard before. eek

I haven't got the set yet but on the OST there's the bit at 5:27 that plays twice, I thought that was the loop.

No, that was the way it was composed. In the film and the La-Land release that part of the cue is longer and you can also hear the edit.

This release is amazing and the new sound is just incredible. However, it has alerted me to some artifacts that have actually always been there, from the original OST. Throughout some of the quieter tracks, there is a low grade hum present in the background. This is most clearly audible early on, in tracks like "Granny Wendy" and "The Nursery". No fault to La-La Land on this, of course. The new sound still kicks the crap out of the original CD, but the hum is there on both recordings.

Probbably a studio thing - i have not heard it but it might from the synth speaker - Since Williams write Synth into his scores then i would think they are being recorded live (some of his sheet oftens calls for improvising even in the synth).

Awesome!

The last 1300 will be gone within the week, I predict

Do keep in mind a majority of our sales are front loaded and usually take place within the first 48 hours. After that its cricket city. (Think opening weekend Box Office)

This is on par with Trek V and Batman 1989 sales.

MV

You might remember, La La, that I was clueless about the sales term "front loaded" when A CERTAIN SMILE came out, and the sales numbers. You said that it sold slowly enough that future golden-age releases are under question for your label.

Now, I'm equally clueless, and so must ask: Do the sales numbers for THE ROBE portend "good news", "bad news", or "more questions" about future golden-age releases from La La Land?

(And thanks for this release. Mine shipped Thursday and I'm looking forward to it.)

Well there's less than 200 copies of 55 days at Peking so that's gotta be good news for Golden Age releases!

The sound on this is amazing! Great job. I am not bothered by Williams "album" edits as I was never that familiar with the score to begin with. Besides I edit the hell out of it myself anyway. wink

The stand out cue has to be "You Are the Pan". What an amazing piece of work. Very powerful. It seems so different from anything else JW has ever written. In fact if I didn't know any better I would have thought Georges Delerue wrote that piece. But of course he didn't.
