This is good news, a fine score. The release I have has around 35 minutes of music, and if I remember it's split into 2 or 3 lengthy "suites". Will this presentation be different or is that the way the score was written? I must confess to never having seen the film.

Original album was 36 minutes....complete score is 86 minutes ...... will sequence in film order as the music really does tell a story....

James, have you started the recording? I like many others are keen to see snippets of some of the recording sessions on this great score.

Recorded it on Dec 10/11/12....some tiny snippets on my Facebook page....more to follow....

Thank you James, wonderful, simply wonderful!

Glad to see Jarre's aficionados happy for this announced release.

But I wonder, James: why "Call me stupid, call me irresponsible...but just decided today to record one of my favourite film scores by my favourite film composer."?

Maybe you were thinking to another thread, where Cody1949 said:
"Oh how I would love some enterprising record label tackle a new recording of Walter Schumann's magnificent score to THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Just wishful thinking."

and you replied:

"I would love to do a new recording of this great score...if anyone know the whereabouts of any sketches or scores from which I could prepare a new manuscript...please email on tadlowmusic@hotmail.com."!!!

I do hope someone came through for Tadlow and all of us with information that could make a recording of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER a reality. In the meantime,James, I am looking forward to Tadlow's recording of DUEL IN THE SUN in February.

...and Jarre brought so much to this fine score because he lived it. He was a child as the events occurred.

Hence one of his favorites and possibly THE favorite Jarre for me.

Maurice Jarre was (already) 15 years old when WWII started.
And when the Liberation occured, as well as the Paris events depicted in this wonderful movie, he was about to turn 20.
A big child wink

He was kind of "involved" in the liberation in Lyon through his father André, a radio engineer, who helped restoring the radio broadcast of "Radio Lyon", in Dardilly.

It's exciting to see Tadlow working on so many film scores. I'm looking forward to IS PARIS BURNING?, THE BLUE MAX AND OTHER GOLDSMITH, DUEL IN THE SUN, THIEF OF BAGDAD and another Rozsa yet unnamed! Wow! smile

James, please keep us updated on the February DUEL IN THE SUN recording sessions.

I would never dare to contradict (or to judge) a choice based on an inner need, like that felt by James. On the other hand, Jarre is a big name, and the choice of this work is well explained by him and the general reaction on this thread. Because of its classic style, I’ll buy this score, even if not at the top of my interest.
But I remain somewhat intrigued by that “Call me stupid, call me irresponsible...”: another big title, deserving priority at the place of PARIS IS BURNING?

Trouble is I only record scores that I like...which usually means scores that do not sell too well. I would really love to do Pride and Passion, The Warlord and Night of the Hunter.....but where to get the funding...so far I have paid for everything myself....but money does not grow.....

Fantastic news indeed and thank you James for this project. This is one of my favorite Jarre scores.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Monsieur Jarre in the early nineties. What a nice person and gentleman.

Now I only wish that Intrada or LLL will release Jarre`s wonderful score to Mr. Jones.

In regards The War Lord funding, did you ever happen to have a new conversation with Moross's daughter who seems to like supporting projects preserving her father's legacy?

Well, I'll buy two copies of PARIS, so you will have in advance my part of the cost for releasing NIGHT OF THE HUNTER!

James, I think you do a wonderful job on all the releases and I for one am fortunate that all of your releases to date have been my personal favourites and get regular spins on my CD player.

If I have to buy two or more of the same recording to keep this going, I would do so without any hesitation.

Whoops.
Must have gotten the wrong impression from those liner notes on the LP. They got the idea he was 14 when Paris was liberated which made him a "child" (used to be 12 and under in the US) when the war started. He is even quoted as having resistant friends of 14 and 15 at his school.
Sorry about that.

Also the way he talked about his memories when he signed this. I am not one for signatures but this one, because of his relationship to the events, was pretty special:

James,

We are all looking forward to the Blue Max release next week however is there a possibility of more videos being released on this forthcoming release and a possible release date?

I hope this is a 2 CD release with some suites from other fine Jarre scores including Ryan's Daughter!

It was probably the mosy enjoyable 3 days of sessions I have ever had....and I know my friend Maurice would have been delighted with the results! He is so sadly missed in these days of nondescript and characterless scoring......
