Jamesfitz annonced this on his facebook page:

Call me stupid, call me irresponsible...but just decided today to record one of my favourite film scores by my favourite film composer. Maurice Jarre, who I was fortunate to call a friend. My colleague Nic Raine not only orchestrated for Maurice but was also a friend. So how appropriate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film IS PARIS BURNING? We should be recording this gigantic score in 6 weeks time....all I need to do is find a 90 orchestra plus 6 snare drums and 12 (yes twelve) pianos : 4 grands, 4 baby grands, 4 uprights....no problem in Prague...just need now to find enough piano tuners !!!
But somebody has to do it!

Wonderful news for Jarre fans ofcourse.

Bit of a fave for me this one - big fan of the resistance march and the way it builds in the film.
Sounds a tough project to pull off successfully. Good luck mr fitz.

I'm always very interested in things with such /specific/ instrumentation like that. 12 pianos? And not just 12 pianos but three different sizes....even Herrmann didn't do such a thing.

He didn't quote Louis Mororou Gottschalk in it or something did he...

This is good news, a fine score. The release I have has around 35 minutes of music, and if I remember it's split into 2 or 3 lengthy "suites". Will this presentation be different or is that the way the score was written? I must confess to never having seen the film.

Original album was 36 minutes....complete score is 86 minutes ...... will sequence in film order as the music really does tell a story....

Absolutely right james thats what i was saying. The building of the last half of the film - with the increase in snare drums and pace really does subtley mirror the activities of the uprising and the boldness of the parisiens.

At last more Jarre from Tadlow, this really is wonderful news.

James is there any possibility you could squeeze a Ryan’s Daughter Suite if there is to be a 2 CD set. Sorry for the request however I do not think any of the labels are brave enough to take a financial risk on a fine score like Ryan’s Daughter.

Let's dedicate, with great humility and compassion, this wonderful project to the innocent victims of the horrendous terrorist attacks...

A wonderful score.

James, could you use 4 pianos and overlay? Or is that sacrilege?

Consul Nordling: "And if a bomb should miss?"

Général Von Choltitz: "A few bombs always miss, but others will hit the target. It's the law of averages."

Consul Nordling: "..A bomb that misses... could hit... Notre Dame. Sainte Chapelle. That's a thousand years of history, turned to dust..."

James, have you started the recording? I like many others are keen to see snippets of some of the recording sessions on this great score.
