Today's selection is THE BAY BOY-84- CLAUDE BOLLING- A very nice soundtrack from the French film Composer Claude Bolling, probably best known for fine soundtracks like BORSALINO, THE AWAKENING, LOUISIANA ETC ETC Has scored well over 50 films in his career, Any comments on this effort?
FEAR STRIKES OUT-57 Not one of ELMER BERNSTEIN'S better known scores, I always felt the main theme was one of the most addictive beautiful melodic themes of his in his long prolific film music career.
Can't go wrong with any drama or romance score done by G. Delerue or P. Doyle.
Various scores by different composers I can think of:
Love's Labour's Lost A Summer Story America's Sweetheart Dangerous Beauty Forever Young Hamlet Joe Versus the Volcano Legends of the Fall Braveheart Mists of Avalon Nouvelle France Old Gringo Out of Africa Pearl Harbor Shakespeare in Love While You Were Sleeping Little Women American President Greatest Miracle Crimes of the Heart Prince of Tides Romeo and Juliet (Rota) Umizaru Limit of Love Man in the Moon Titanic Man, Women Child Blue Lagoon Curly Sue Fluke Secretariat Soul Surfer Black Stallion Returns My Dog Skip Ostwind The Punisher (Siliotto)
While I am on the Elmer track I always thought THE GOOD SON-93- Was one of the most beautiful underrated scores by him. Can't stop humming that main theme through the years.
Solaris, Conan The Barbarian, and a number of John Barry`s Bond moments. Moonraker space battles, station reveals, You Only Live Twice, and The Living Daylights.
The Abyss and Ben Hur too, now that I think of them.
Did you ever hear a score years ago and for some reason it didn't really click or impressed you and then years later you hear it again and you really like it? I remember on a very hot humid day in the 80's I was listening to THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE and at that time I didn't have the air condition on and the apartment was hot, very hot. Some how one song after another didn't get me going. A few weeks later I gave the whole soundtrack another try and I fell in love with the whole Sherman brothers score. Since it has been one of my favorites of the Sherman's. Well years ago I was listening to JESUS OF NAZARETH by MAURICE JARRE as I remembered I was not that thrilled by it. I listen to it again recently and fine it to be a solid score with a beautiful main theme. Maybe we should always give something a second chance, the mind can be funny.

Yes, Field of Dreams. Back then I would blindly buy anything from Horner, and purchased his scores without seeing the films they accompanied. On first listen I thought it was horrible. Ambient yawner. I sold it. Years later I saw the film, and I made a connection with the score. Turned around and repurchased it.
THE CHAMP-79 - DAVID GRUSIN- Beautiful theme for a tearful ending turned into a beautiful song by KENNY RANKIN-WHAT MATTERS MOST IS THAT WE LOVED AT ALL-
One little story...caught a movie on TV when I was maybe early teens (mid to late 80's) and found the film pretty forgettable but it just had one of those themes that stuck with you...was humming and whistling it so much over a long time that I just completely forgot what movie it was from and never heard it again...
....fast forward a decade and a half, and Bravo Channel had one of their post-pub movie marathons, during which of course I suddently heard that sweeping theme again, found out the movie (which is now a massive guilty pleasure for me) and managed to switch on the VHS Recorder so I could - well, you know ....
...and fast forward to the last part of 2013 and Quartet Records do the "grail" thing for me and release The Beastmaster in what looks to be a wonderful package (I haven't received mine as yet).
