Been watching my DVD Collection of the old show and was wondering how others thought about the series. The First Season was definitely a more dark and serious show and I enjoy it in it's glorious Black and White. It was just so more realistic and dramatic then how it became more of a light hearted comedy and silly vehicle for Jonathan Harris in it's 2nd and 3rd Seasons. But, I guess that was somewhat entertaining.

What are your thoughts? Did you like the show better in it's first season or when it became a Campy Technicolor Circus? The tone really changed from Season One. Johnny Williams music always made it wonderful and added so much throughout.

Favorite Episode. When Will is transported back to earth to that little town at Christmas time.

Was J-5 an abandoned Vulcan Boy? Were his pointy ears made by the STAR TREK folks?

I hated that episode growing up! It was so boring. It had almost no sci fi in it. wink
It's not a bad episode on its own merits though. LOL

The episode had a lot of tracked music in it I believe.

While it tried to maintain a sense of seriousness in the first season the camp started really early. Jonathan Harris yucked it up almost from the very beginning. The silly Doctor Smith was pretty much established within the first 5 or 6 episodes.

Of course the pilot remains my favorite episode. Along with the Derelict and the next two or three episodes.

Growing up I liked War of the Robots and the one where Will has to fight another boy. The one where there were a thousand tiny B9's. Also Trip Through the Robot. A very funny episode where Judy is made Queen. I liked the two parter with The Keeper. Also the one where Judy is cloned by giant plants. Oh and the Antimatter episode. (Sorry to lazy to look up all the episode titles.)

Also very fond of the series premier episodes of the second and third season.

I enjoyed the show on it's initial run and thought the visual and sound effects were top notch. The episode that stands out in my memory is the one where the robot falls in love with the evil "female" robot. "Have there been any other robots before me?" he asks her. LOL.

I find it unwatchable now. I feel sorry for the actors in the silly costumes. smile

I haven't purchased the Blu Ray set yet, but I did purchase the first season in HD off of iTunes. It looks amazing! Its funny in a way to see how crude much of the construction was. Mostly the exterior of the J2 and the robot. Don't get me wrong I love the designs but the crudeness shows. The inside sets still look amazing.

I just remember how evil and dangerous Dr. Smith seemed in the first season and then he suddenly became that pathetic coward with a delicate back.

Always remember the one with "The Great Protinius" with the prehistoric cavemen dancing to the Robot singing "Boom Boom Boom Boom, Boom Boom Boom!" THE SPACE PRIMEVALS.

That 1st season is still gold, especially where the un-aired pilot was cannibalized and made into the first 3 or 5* episodes.
After those, my favorite is the one Brother Sol previously mentioned, where Will had to fight Kurt Russell.
And then John has to step in, and gets to show off some of his Zorro chops.
I think the other dad was Michael Ansara (not sure).

(* Sorry. Meant to say 4 or 5. Maybe even 6?)

Yes it was Michael Ansara as Quano's Dad.

Ansara would later appear as a Klingon in last season of STAR TREK. Some guest actors who appeared in LOST IN SPACE would turn up on STAR TREK and I always thought they must have had fun playing their different characters/aliens from show to show. Ted Cassidy and Michael J. Pollard were a couple of them. Stanley Adams was the Giant Carrot in LOST IN SPACE and then Cyrano Jones on STAR TREK.

You know what made me LMAO? I was watching one of the color episodes recently, (not sure which season) where there were these space biker hippies and the leader of the gang was none other than Frank Furillo!

The one and only Daniel J. Travanti. Credited in the episode as Dan Travanty.

Danny J. as "Space Hippie" in the episode COLLISION OF PLANETS.

Currently have on THE SPACE DESTRUCTORS. It's the one with a bunch of men running around in Dr. Smith rubber masks. Even Billy Mumy wears a Dr. Smith head/mask in that one. It's so ridiculous.

For me, the first seven episodes (not counting the unaired pilot) are amazing. The pacing is a little slow in spots for today's attention span, but still, they're great. The rest of the first season has its ups and downs.

During the color seasons, there are some good ones, but there are also whole runs of episodes that are terrible, almost painful. In the late 1980s, the Sci-Fi Channel was showing them five days a week, in the morning when I'd be home from my night job. And I kept wishing they'd take it off the channel, because I was compelled to sit through these bad episodes just for the John Williams cues that were tracked in here and there.

When I got the three GNP CDs, that took some of the pressure off. Boy it was great to have those.

To this day that Smith mask on Will's face creeps me out! It's truly disturbing.

And I am now convinced its where Lucas got the idea for Light Sabers.

Any Chavo fans out there? I guess someone had to give "The Frito Bandito" a run for his money back then.
