It may not be a flood, like all the out of print or overstock titles that hit Family Dollar a few years back, but at least 3 of those titles are now in the bins at my local Dollar Tree ( although now it's $1.25 ).

Maybe more will show up, but if you're after Astro Boy by Ottman, Giacchino's Speed Racer and Eagle Eye by Tyler I saw several copies of each.

I need to head there, then!

It might not be the best movie, but I simply love the Speed Racer score. So much fun.

Speed Racer is the greatest American movie made in the last 20 years and I will fight tooth and nail on that point. And Giacchino's score reflects that.

Astro Boy is also a hell of a lot of fun - score and film.

Both SPEED RACER and ASTRO BOY are easily in my Top 5 Best Scores by Giacchino and Ottman respectively.
Fantastic scores brimming with melody and excitement and fun.
If you don't have them - and can acquire them for $1.25 - you should.

Ditto on Astroboy. Already own the score and Blu Ray. Not so much on Speedracer. Anyway, thxs for the alert, I'll see what my DT has to offer.

This thread had me thinking about it long after I read it for the sheer mystery of how the heck those score CDs ended up at a Dollar Tree...those stores usually have specific stocking procedures so the store manager or general manager probably had to specially request those for inclusion in the stock.

So someone had to decide to order those scores to be included in the stock--and not just any scores (like something that had a gajillion copies pressed like any of the STAR WARS scores or TITANIC or BRAVEHEART that was released by one of the big commercial labels). In any case, I've NEVER seen CDs in my local Dollar Tree, let alone soundtracks so nice find!

Yeah usually I see Kirk Cameron religious movies and some really bad direct to Blu Ray action flicks and comedies. I don't think I've ever seen a CD there.

For what it's worth I checked at my local Dollar Tree and they didn't have ANY CDs, at all.

I managed a Family Dollar for a number of years ( bought out by DT ), and at that time, every 3 or 4 months ( depending on how fast they sold ) we would just get boxes of CDs/ DVD's or Blu Rays from the discount reseller MoviesUBuy. They all the same UPC code, there's always a new sticker on the back of any case with the new bar code. So, we couldn't order specific CDs, we just take what we got. So from my experience, they probably still just get a random assortment of titles ( although things can change )

Most of the Dollar Tree locations around here ( central NC ) started carrying CDs in 2021,and the amount in a store does vary, I guess by store size and their total sales, or historical sales of like items. So one store might get 1 box, the store I saw these at had 6 boxes of maybe 30 discs each, but across all boxes maybe 2 copies of each title mentioned.

So who knows if any more will show up ?

Found myself with some time to kill at the local strip mall so I decided to check out our Dollar Tree and to my pleasant surprise, they had all three soundtracks listed (Astro Boy, Eagle Eye, and Speed Racer) for $1.25. I picked up all three! I'm in Southern Virginia FWIW.

The last CD Soundtrack I saw at my local Dollar Tree was MAN OF STEEL and that was back when the price was still $1.00 and not the current price of $1.25

Will they change the name of the store to the DOLLAR TWENTY-FIVE TREE? Bet your bottom Dollar, probably not. It may very well be the DOLLAR FIFTY TREE by the end of the year. Is the 99 cent Store still in existence?

I recently went into one of our local Dollar Tree's and found Night At The Museum (Alan Silvestri) and Speed Racer (Michael Giacchino) for $1.25 each. Both were put out by Varese Sarabande years ago. I normally would not have purchased them for regular price whey were initially released, but for that price...what the heck!

When I was a kid in the sixties and seventies, we were still calling Woolworths "the dime store."

The only thing I ever bought there that cost a dime was a single piece of candy.

Talk about brand inflation.

"Somewhere Around a Dollar Tree."

I got the defense. Only trees are a dollar and we're out of stock of trees.

My mother (a product of the '60s) called Woolworth the dime store well into the '90s!

My parents called it "the five and dime." Another expression lost to the mists of time...
