Thanks to this thread, I have upgraded my Apple Music and iTunes, saving all of my music to the Cloud (which will help should I suffer another fire - Zod forbid). Having a crap ton of music I wouldn't be exposed to otherwise is really nice. Is it Lossless? Who knows? Since a lot of my music is sent over Bluetooth to speakers or headphones, it ain't gonna be lossless anyway. I just know it sounds great to me.

Apple Music basically uses two formats, AAC, which is the successor of MP3 (and lossy) and ALAC, which is the equivalent to FLAC on Apple devices. BOTH of these use the ending "MP4", which can be confusing. They do both use the same file extension, but it's actually ".m4a" not ".mp4". Yes, you're right of course, thanks! I'll correct it up there to avoid confusion.

I don't know why but the word "lossless" sounds bad even when I know it's good. It's a double negative, and therefore an aberration of syntax and slang. It must be destroyed.
