Recently, on radio 3 I heard a piece of music that I was liking. I found out it was a movement from this chappies second symphony. I liked it so much I bought it ( with his 3rd ). Very nice indeed. Symphonic and melodic whilst incorporating jazz and blues influences. So I ordered two more discs of his symphonies . Just finished playing his Afro-American, also very good. Whiffs of Gershwin, I think. And bits that I can only describe as reminding me of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, not necceserily anything written but that's what I get in my head.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of his. There's something that I don't like and can't change my mind about it.
At least it's another reply. I was just pleasantly surprised by what I heard. Usually when I put radio 3 on it's either stuff I've got or know of . Rarely do I hear a ' mystery ' piece that hits the spot. One I can put on and relax for an hour.
