Quartet Records and El Deseo proudly present a mammoth 11-CD box set that compiles revised and remastered editions of all the soundtracks from the films on which Pedro Almodóvar and Alberto Iglesias have worked together—a partnership that celebrates 25 years of uninterrupted collaboration this year.
After work with Bernardo Bonezzi in four films, and also with Ennio Morricone and Ryuichi Sakamoto, Almodóvar met Alberto Iglesias in 1995 on the film THE FLOWER OF MY SECRET. Since then, the composer has written music for all his films, including some movies and scores that have become classics of the European cinema, such as ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER, TALK TO HER, VOLVER, or their most recent triumph, PAIN & GLORY.
Alberto Iglesias (b. 1955) is one of the most personal voices on the Spanish musical scene. He has dedicated his career to music: concert, ballet and, above all, film music. A significant composer in whose style can be found echoes of composers from Stravinsky to Debussy, from Ravel to Bartók, from Herrmann to Takemitsu, from Steve Reich to Miles Davis, Iglesias has always maintained a strong and warm personality in his scores. Iglesias has been an Academy Award nominee three times (THE CONSTANT GARDENER, THE KITE RUNNER and TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY), and has won more than 50 international awards and nominations for his scores, many of them for Almodóvar films.
Since all the albums were virtually complete (indeed, many of them include cues that don't appear in the movies), this edition doesn't includes extra music, although all the albums (many of them out-of-print for years) have been meticulously remastered by José Luis Crespo, who also recorded and mixed all of them. The order of some programs has also been modified. Box set includes 11 CDs in individual cardboard sleeves. Cover art and package design by Juan Gatti (designer of some of Almodóvar's most iconic movie posters), and the 60-page booklet includes liner notes by Pedro Almodóvar, Alberto Iglesias and film critic Manuel J. Lombardo.
As Lombardo says in his essay: “There are many flashes and moments of intense emotion and unique musical-cinematographic significance that Almodóvar and Iglesias provide us in these eleven films, including many brilliant transitions and unsuspected links. Many secrets held by characters are stirred up or revealed through the music—the restricted or expanded tempos, the spaces and the distant places communicated and stitched together, sometimes between films. Many inner voices, dialogues and monologues are made visible. Many evoked memories, faces, gestures, glances, lights, shadows, figures and colors are sculpted with meticulous detail on the stave, note by note, motif by motif, melody by melody, instrument by instrument. Now is the time to remember them and watch them while listening. Such is the power of film scores—even outside their natural habitat.”

Quartet Records, Universal Music Group, Geffen Records and Paramount Pictures celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1969 British comedy caper movie THE ITALIAN JOB with an expanded edition of the killer score by Quincy Jones (IN COLD BLOOD, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, THE HOT ROCK).
Written by Troy Kennedy Martin, produced by Michael Deeley for Paramount Pictures, and directed by Peter Collinson, the film stars Michael Caine in one of the most famous roles of his career, joined by Noël Coward, Benny Hill, Raf Vallone, Rossano Brazzi and Margaret Blye. It tells the story of Charlie Croker (Michael Caine), the leader of a cockney criminal gang released from prison with the intention of doing a big job in Italy to steal gold bullion from an armored security truck.
Although it was a weird decision to hire an African-American jazz musician and composer for such an intrinsically British film, the choice of Quincy Jones proved a triumph. He provided a catchy, intrepid score, including the hit song "On Days Like These" (lyrics by Don Black) performed by Matt Monro (whose album version of the song was produced by George Martin). Also popular was the song that appears during the climatic Mini Cooper car chase, “Getta Bloomin’ Move On!” (usually referred to as “The Self-Preservation Society”), also with lyrics by Don Black.
For this anniversary edition, we present the original album completely remastered from original tapes, courtesy of UMG, with crisp, clean sound mastered, for the first time, in its correct stereo format (in all previous editions, the channels were reversed). Besides the original album, we have added the original score as heard in the film, including cues not featured on the LP as well as others that present different recordings or edits, all from mono elements courtesy of Paramount Pictures (comprising mono session tapes, stems and electrovox sources). Finally, alternate versions of the song performed by Matt Monro, and the single versions of Monro and Lou Reizner (arranged by Jones himself) are included as bonus tracks.
This collection has been restored and mastered by Chris Malone. The 24-page full-color booklet contains liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond.
THOSE DARING YOUNG MEN IN THEIR JAUNTY JALOPIES – 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION (2-CD SET)

Quartet Records and Paramount Pictures are proud to present the world premiere complete release of the exciting, infectious score by Ron Goodwin (WHERE EAGLES DARE, SQUADRON 633, FRENZY, CANDLESHOE) for the British-American classic big-budget production comedy THOSE DARING YOUNG MEN IN THEIR JAUNTY JALOPIES (aka MONTE CARLO OR BUST!)—a 50th anniversary celebration in a double-CD set.
Directed by Ken Annakin, the film boasts an extensive cast of some of the most famous international stars of the period: Tony Curtis, Terry-Thomas, Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, Bourvil, Mireille Darc, Marie Dubois, Lando Buzzanca, Gert Fröbe and Jack Hawkins, among others. It was planned as a sequel to the successful THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES (1965) with Terry-Thomas playing the son of the villain of that film, but exchanging planes for cars—specifically, an international car rally across Europe with the usual smuggling, cheating and love at first sight. As he did for THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN…, Ron Goodwin provided the score, which continues the same fun, casual, descriptive and dynamic style. Goodwin wrote different themes and leitmotifs for the racers of each nationality, all of them tremendously catchy, developed in vigorous medleys for the final parts of the great race.
The music of THOSE DARING YOUNG MEN was released on LP by Paramount Records in 1969, with a generous length of 42 minutes. For this premiere CD edition, we have included the expanded stereo LP (with some cues that were left off the original vinyl release due to time limits) in addition to the more than 90 minutes complete score in mono, courtesy of Paramount Pictures, presented from different sources found in their vaults (mono session tapes, stems and electrovox). We also include the overture, intermission and exit music for the roadshow version of the film, and several versions of the title song performed by no less a personality than Jimmy Durante.
This collection has been restored and mastered by Chris Malone. The 20-page full-color booklet contains liner notes by film music writer Jeff Bond.

Quartet Records and MGM proudly present a new re-mastered edition of Jerry Goldsmith’s beloved score for the 1978 Victorian adventure-comedy caper, THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY. Based on director Michael Crichton’s own novel, the film stars Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland and Lesley-Anne Down as charming and distinguished thieves who make elaborate plans to steal a shipment of gold from a moving train. Goldsmith's score, the composer’s third collaboration with Crichton (following PURSUIT and COMA) is one of the best of its period. It features a catchy, vibrant main theme, the locomotive for an exciting, elegant score, powerfully performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded with great precision and detail by Eric Tomlinson at Anvil Studios in London.
The music for THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY was originally issued on LP in 1979 by United Artist Records in a short (29 minutes) but delightful album conceived by Goldsmith, masterfully edited but decidedly not in film order, that was nevertheless a very pleasant listening experience. In 2004, Varèse Sarabande released the first expanded edition, which added seven minutes and was re-mixed for SA-CD. Intrada reissued the score in 2011 as a double-CD set debuting the complete film score using Eric Tomlinson’s original mixes on CD 1 and the album program on CD 2. That edition sold out many years ago and commands high prices on the second-hand market.
Now, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the international release of the film (it premiered at the end of 1978 only in the UK) and the release of the original LP, Quartet Records presents an all-new edition with CD 1 showcasing for the first time the score as intended for the film, with all performance edits and combinations recreated from new, high-resolution (192 kHz/24-bit) transfers of surviving 1/4? tapes featuring Eric Tomlinson's original stereo mix. CD 2 contains the original 1/4? stereo album master newly transferred (at 192 kHz/24-bit) and remastered from the first-generation master tapes.
This collection has been meticulously produced by Neil S. Bulk and mastered by Doug Schwartz. The package includes a 20-page booklet with detailed liner notes and track-by-track analysis by John Takis. All aboard!

Quartet Records, Universal Music Publishing Italia and El Deseo present a limited remastered reissue of the Ennio Morricone score for Pedro Almodóvar’s classic film ÁTAME! (aka TIE ME UP! TIE ME DOWN!) to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Although the director's previous films had original music by Bernardo Bonezzi, disagreements during the final process of MUJERES AL BORDE DE UN ATAQUE DE NERVIOS had ruptured their collaboration. Almodóvar decided to hire Ennio Morricone (who had just had several consecutive triumphs with the music of THE MISSION, THE UNTOUCHABLES, FRANTIC and CINEMA PARADISO) to compose the score of his new film. Morricone wrote for ATAME! a radiantly melancholic, lovely score that recalls some of his most elaborate compositions for romantic dramas in the late sixties–early seventies.
Since there isn’t a single cue among the session tapes that was not included on the original album—the film contains about 25 minutes of music and the album 43 (with a couple of alternate versions and some cues—such as the main theme—recorded especially for it), we have duplicated Morricone’s original program, which is all the music recorded for the film. We have also included as a bonus track the song “Resistiré” by Dúo Dinámico, which plays a key role in the film. This remastered reissue has been produced by Claudio Fuiano, and the 12-page full-color booklet contains liner notes and track-by-track rundown analysis by Gergely Hubai.
SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE – 3-CD SET REMASTERED REISSUE

Quartet Records, Universal Music Group, Capitol Records, Calash Corporation and Studio Canal present a slightly remastered edition of the highly requested reissue of Henry Mancini’s charming score for SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE.
The film, directed by Jeannot Szwarc in 1985, starred Dudley Moore, David Huddleston and John Lithgow. An ambitious and expensive project produced by Alexander Salkind, it was not the box-office hit it was expected to be. One of the most important aspects of the film was its soundtrack, for which Salkind hired Henry Mancini. The composer was deeply involved in the production, composing more than 85 minutes of original music for the 109-minute film. This soundtrack is surely one of the biggest efforts of his career, so beautiful, diverse and emotional, written during the same period as LIFEFORCE and THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE.
Recorded at CTS Studios in London with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the score also features The Ambrosian Children’s Choir performing several charming songs written by Mancini and Leslie Bricusse. For the original album, released in 1985 by EMI America, Mancini prepared a program of highlights: 13 tracks lasting only 37 minutes. Some themes were modified for their album version—with different durations, slightly different mixes or the addition of pop elements. Almost all of Mancini’s symphonic effort was missing.
Quartet Records released Mancini’s score in its entirety in 2012 on a 3-CD set, remixed by José Vinader from ½?? 3-track stereo and 2? 24-track session masters vaulted in mint condition at Abbey Road Studios, London (where the EMI album was mixed). In addition to the complete score, it has been great to discover a lot of extra material that Mancini recorded for the film: songs with alternate lyrics, different orchestrations, etc. Courtesy of UMG, we have also included the original 1985 album version, mastered from first-generation master tapes stored in the Abbey Road vaults.
For this reissue, also a 3-CD set, we have used the same program as in 2012 (there is no more music recorded!), but it has been entirely remastered with upgraded technology by Chris Malone, who has also fixed some minor blemishes from the previous edition (such as studio noises, clicks, and a few dropouts). The package includes a full-color booklet with liner notes and track-by-track analysis by Jeff Bond.
