Joan made the original post, so she's a JAFO as well, right? And you know it's the F-word, don't twist words like you work at the white house.

fraking? fracking? (better).

I dunno why you're such a troll.

Whaaah? Out of this loony bin.

Huh? Huh?

JAFO must mean Joan Another Fabulous Observer because all I did was share a new medicine and its price, and what is new (or not new) where I live.

You were commenting negatively on the exploitative price hikes. I was merely agreeing and got shit for it, but if you want to disavow any knowledge of my actions, so be it.
But I love the re-interpretation of JAFO. smile

Oh come on, you were commenting negatively on the price increases. I was merely agreeing and got shit for it, but if you want to disavow any knowledge of my actions, so be it.

Delusional, much?

LC, don't misread me. Yes I was commenting negatively on the price of the new drug. And I agreed with your "compassionate" comment because some people won't be able to afford this drug.
I guess I should have commented on your comment earlier.

I was just confused to come in here and see tempers flaring over a rather innocuous post that I made. At least I thought it was innocuous. I think there is some "failure to communicate" issues here.

Joan, I know that you know that I know you know. But I don't know what the others know.

That made me laugh. Now I do KNOW.

Hey, LC, we're all in the same boat, moat, coat, or whatever. Wherever you stand, there's a lot of SARS-CoV-2 between wherever you are and the horizon. It's not just Houston. We've got Leicester, Yeah?

And I do know the scale of the infectivity problem in the US is huge, so the joke was meant to be kind of local. But I certainly didn't mean to give the wrong impression.

I happen to be reading "Voyage to Bottom of Sea" imdb reviews for "Terror on Dinosaur Island" which provide an appropriate reply.

"Crane makes the command decision that the military trains its officers, nco's, and sailors to have to make the tough call, but don't ever think it doesn't destroy you. I never served on a sub but knew many, and it was something that just wasn't spoken of. If you ever give thought to the many who died in the silent service, do some searches for lost submarines to understand the great sacrifice so many have made."

So I'd like to think you'd do the right thing, or not, if we were stuck on the metaphoric "Dinosaur Island" of the present.

Not sure what the episode in question has to do with the current pandemic situation and apparently tough decisions, LC? Wouldn't the film, On The Beach be more pertinent? Everyone in that story situation was forced to make a terminal decision within the hypothetical constraints of the storyline.

I believe there's a rather good TV mini-series of the original story knocking around online, somewhere. Been meaning to see it. Rather more hard hitting than Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, though admittedly, still sci-fi unless the unthinkable takes place.

Greetings from Houston, a new COVID epicenter...

Isn't that the state motto? "Houston we have a problem."

You said we're in the same boat, and clarified your comment was about the lockdown (which I guess wasn't meant to be insulting), so I was stretching the metaphor that we're in the same submarine and Dinosaur Island was the threat.
I only quoted the review because it was absurdly amusing...although I applied it that you could be counted on to support us, even if it meant leaving someone behind, like Captain Crane might have had to do.

The reality is that when I was looking at the grim figures coming through the news channels over the number of daily deaths at the height of this viral death circle, the idea it could be me or someone from my family hit pretty hard. The really funny thing is that if you were in the right place or the wrong time (whichever combo you care for) you might suddenly find that for you personally, it's game over. When that happens you could either fly your terminally damaged plane away from the town to save lives or direct it straight into the side of an enemy ship to kill as many as possible. Either way, you're a hero to some.

Regal, Cinemark, and AMC theaters have delayed their openings in the U.S. from mid July to late July.

Disney has moved MULAN from July 24 to August 21.

Maybe Criterion could offer a pro-movie product like a 3-faced mask...

My state along with Rhode Island have the lowest infection rates in the country and testing is being done here at the highest levels yet. That said, my neighbors and my town partied like it was 1976. More fireworks than I have ever heard and parties across the street, next door and across the lake. I even offered my neighbor the use of my driveway for overflow parking to keep our narrow street clear. I had no problem with parties if it had been last year year. I found it jaw dropping. I did not see a mask anywhere. Am I just an old fart, a party pooper?

My husband and I stayed in and ordered food from a very nice Japanese restaurant and watched a movie. I had a wonderful weekend. Not feeling very celebratory at the moment but don't begrudge others' need to celebrate. I guess I am just confused. This virus has mutated according to all I read and though no more dangerous than before, it has been determined to be more infectious. Do people read? If I had seen a few masks yesterday, I would have felt that at least there was an awareness. Nothing. I even saw my neighbor sharing a joint with another guy - we have a pretty open neighborhood lol. I don't care about the joint but c'mon, roll and smoke your own.

I am going to be nervous over the next 14 days watching the numbers in this state. I hope I'm wrong. If I am, I'll go see my neighbor about some....

Update: Our lake community has a small parade every year on the 4th. This year the Shriners showed up and the street was full of all the mini trucks, cars, atvs and motorcycles. It was hilarious. We watched from our window but our neighbors are partying in the street. Wtf.

I’m done - rant over.

Same experience. My neighbors who are retired have family and friends over all the time. (Haven't even slowed down thru this pandemic) Their back porch is their living room and they watch TV, listen to music, drink and party all the time outside. They have a pool for the grand-kids and BBQ frequently. Being the 4th they had one of their biggest parties yet. Huge crowds of ppl in groups in the back yard and front. I can only imagne how many were clustered together inside. Everyone was having a blast from the sound of it. Not a care in the world. How they haven't gotten Covid 19 yet is beyond me.

Edit: July 4th had the highest number of reported new Covid cases where I live! That's probably a roll over from the day before. Imagine the numbers in the days ahead as those who partied on the 4th get reported.
