Soundtrack cd's should be shelved alphabetically, BY FRANCHISE NAME FIRST.

Therefore, BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES should be in the P's, not the B's.

Why would that be a nerd war starter? That makes complete sense to me - it’s how I’ve always shelved my CDs....

And WITHIN the franchise, do you shelve them alphabetically, chronologically by release, or chronologically by story?

Think carefully before you answer!!! smile

Soundtrack cd's should be shelved alphabetically, BY FRANCHISE NAME FIRST.

So, would films like "When Harry Met Sally", "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "Sleepless in Seattle" just be filed under: "Rom-Com"? "Rom-Com" is *kind of* a franchise of its own, isn't it?

I mean, they're basically all the same thing...

In the case of Star Wars, chronologically by story.

I think I do everything else by release.....

We CD collectors are such a snooty lot aren't we? Remember the days of vinyl, who shelved their records? They were just thrown about the room on the floor, in the closet, on the bed.

You've instigated several Nerd Skirmishes with this post. I will address them chronologically. smile

1) "Rom-Com" is not a franchise, it's a GENRE. (And you have to pronounce the way film school nerds pronounce it, by the way.) smile

2) "By Genre" is an "alternate shelving style" not currently recognized by the INA, I'm afraid, so we might get in trouble if we discuss it here. smile

3) "I mean, they're basically all the same thing..." is spelled "Pffft. What's the diff??" smile

How can that be wrong? It’s perfect.

By the way, I was looking for a CD this morning and realised that I have ‘The Mask of Zorro’ and ‘The Legend of Zorro’ in the “z” part of my collection in order of film release. smile

I'm not in the loop so I'm slack-jawed at the possibility that this REALLY is the title of the upcoming movie.

Just carrying on the tradition of Lucas's awful film titles! At least Disney respected Lucas in thatrespect.
