Is it true that Goldenthal is kinda “banned” because of the 300 situation?

Kinda -- only Goldenthal scores for WB would be affected by that at all, though. Which is why LLL gave us Alien3 complete not all that long ago. Sadly Goldenthal did some of his best work for WB.

Would having the rights 'in perpetuity' in certain cases not override that grudge?

Depends on how vengeful they are. Studio still has to sign off. Director and actors may have to do sign offs and if they want to work with the studio again...

Probably not if all they wanted to do was release an Encore Edition reissue. But as Justin said, they still have to go back to the film studio to license additional previously unreleased cues. LLL apparently was able to do that with Warner Bros. the film studio for addition cues on Batman Forever, after licensing the original album from Warner Bros. Records. Maybe Varese could do similarly, but no sign of it happening so far...

Not only is the line 'good job' from Hancock, but the main character has also got a piece of his memory missing, so I'm leaning towards Hancock Deluxe Edition for clue 2.
So that means it's deffo Hollow Man or Medicine Man.

Wot?

Not even a bag of Skittles for Kev McGann?

Lots of discussion about Hancock. I hope we finally see an expanded Death Wish!

Well… John Powell on IG just basically said “CD release on Friday”. So it’s
Likely Hancock or Paycheck.

That'd be fantastic! But really I'd buy any deluxe John Powell scores Varese puts out. And since I missed out on the first deluxe Matrix, I'm pretty excited for Friday!

There's a reason this likely will not happen and that is because Goldenthal sued Warner Bros. and won outright which probably cost the studio a fortune despite the fact the studio owns the music itself. If you want to blame someone for this just look at both Zack Snyder and Tyler Bates for this. They didn't have to temp 300 with Goldenthal's music and Bates copying it note for note almost. The temp track was designed to give an idea of what kind of music or style the movie should have. In certain cases, some composers have spotted a film without one much like Elmer Bernstein for example who hated having one. Unfortunately, alot of directors fall in love with it (ie.Michael Mann, Ridley Scott and many others) and they want a particular track or set of cues to sound like that music in which the composer loses some originality to their own original compositions. It would've been great if Zack Snyder just hired Goldenthal to score 300 and give him the score that he felt the movie needed instead of ripping him off in which Warner Bros. had to pay the price for it out of the films' box office profit and add a disclaimer on all of their physical releases of the film. The smart thing would've been for Synder to just buy the music like Ridley Scott did for Alien when they used a couple of tracks from Jerry Goldsmith's Freud score and avoided problems right then and there. Then there wouldn't be problems with Goldenthal and no lawsuit or withholding potential expanded releases on his scores for the future. Now Goldenthal's stuff is practically shelved in the Warner vaults and he probably will never work for them ever again as a composer and that is the tragic part of this because there's at least a dozen or so movies that would've benefited if he so chose to accept those assignments unless Goldenthal and the current management at Warner Bros. come to an understanding which isn't out of the question. However, I just can't see that mainly because of the lawsuit and the undisclosed amount of money Warner Bros. paid him.

Regarding, Batman Forever...I think they got approval of those tracks before the 300 fiasco otherwise that release wouldn't gotten as far as it did and I'm thankful that own it and it was released. Batman & Robin which I wish was released even back in 1997, will not likely see the light of day and all because of this mess and probably you can add Sphere, Demolition Man, Heat, Cobb, Interview With A Vampire and Michael Collins to the list too and it is a very sad thing that the stupidity of a composer and a pretty good one would lead to a lawsuit and a residual mess 14 years after the fact.

As for the Clues... Most likely it's The Matrix and Paycheck. The first picture also shows the guy holding a hammer and a stake and wearing sunglasses...I think it might be Blade by Mark Isham or even Blade 2 by Marco Beltrami.

I'll stick with Matrix and Paycheck. A sci-fi double dip!

Ugh, not to add fuel to the fire, but just thinking about 300 makes me want to punch someone.
I remain baffled as how to they thought they were going to get away with that.

I really hope this situation is resolved someday. Like you said, Goldenthal did some of best work for WB. An expanded Heat and Sphere are two of my biggest Holy Grails! And I would also love to see Interview with the Vampire expanded (not all Varese titles, I know)

Hopefully Varese will at least give us a Deluxe Edition of S.W.A.T. and In Dreams someday

Why though? I mean, copying the temp track is almost a daily occurrence. 300 certainly wasn't the first nor the last to do it. I'm not saying temp love is a good thing but are you equally outraged about the first Pirates score copying a cue from Kilar's Dracula score to name just one example? And not to open that can of worms, and what about Horner copying from several classical composers?

There are literally dozens examples of composers copying the temp track, why is it that people always seem to be the most outraged about 300?

Because it caused this apparent blockage.

“Good job” is from Hancock so maybe one of them is that. Still hoping for Hollow Man for the other but the puzzle motif might be Sneakers.

Oh man. Hancock is such an underrated masterpiece. I would love it if Varese produced a Deluxe Edition of that.

Yeah. I was wondering the other day if this would ever get released.

It will be an instant buy from me if it is one of the releases.
