Why does Sneakers keep coming up?

Varese has nothing to do with Sneakers.

This would be super-nice! One of my fave Powell scores. The jigsaw motif being the clue, of course!

Simple: because some people don't pay attention to how Varese operates. smile

To be fair, I was wrong about Dracula Deluxe being able to come from any label... it's true that Varese only sub-licensed that original album from MCA/Universal, but I had no idea the complete tapes themselves were in their possession. But generally speaking, it's going to be expansions of titles they hold in perpetuity, with perhaps the occasional premiere thrown in (though The Big Fix and Rooster Cogburn ending up recently in the bargain bin doesn't exactly bode well for more of those).

Varese can have to do with what ever title it can license the rights from.

So two threads about something we know nothing about. I know it's a thread race.

There's what Varese can/could do, and what Varese does. They have said no more Encore reissues after the departure of Robert Townson. That leaves premieres and expansions. Premieres I already addressed as still being a possibility but probably less likely than they used to be. As for expansions... Dracula was three years ago, and that was the last time they did a Deluxe Edition of something they didn't control in perpetuity but had to license from both a record company and a film studio. When was the last time they Deluxified something they didn't control in perpetuity, before that? Stargate: The Deluxe Edition in 2006?

I wouldn't say we know nothing. We have this:

And we have these:

I think the first clue is super obvious especially with the Record Store Day titles being known for a while. Varese would be mental to release a complete Matrix on LP only, and it would make sense for it to be released on CD around the same time. As for the second clue, I think edern and Spymaster are pretty smart cookies.

And assuming the two titles are what I suspect they are, it's a pretty epic twofer (even sans Goldsmith, lol).

Looks like clouds behind the guys head. I wish sneakers was the other.

The second doesn't imply a "Hollow Man" at all to me. It indicates a puzzle that is incomplete, not a hollow or invisible man. But the Goldsmith Releases Train has been chugging along, so who knows...

It suggests to me a piece of someone's memory missing, but I literally can't think of any amnesia movies. (I doubt Memento would be a contender.)

And if it is Hollow Man...imagine how sick of chocolate cake you'd be if you had to eat it every day, three times a day.

“Good job” is from Hancock so maybe one of them is that. Still hoping for Hollow Man for the other but the puzzle motif might be Sneakers.

Could the first one.. or even the second one.. possibly be... Demolition Man?!
Could the second one.. also possibly be The Matrix?

It's obviously Hollow Man.

Or Brainstorm.

Or Jigsaw

Or Paycheck

Or Being John Malkovich because that looks a bit like John Malkovich.

Or Scream 3

Or The Blue Max

Or Matinee (because Varese's clues are royally screwed up!)

Or Sneakers because... well apparently it's likely, even though it goes anything everything Varese has ever done!

Or something else.

But my money's on Leviathan, because I'd really like an expanded Leviathan.

The only thing you can guarantee is that they'll be some kind of factual error or misprint, or spacing guffaw between lines of the track list

Oh man. Hancock is such an underrated masterpiece. I would love it if Varese produced a Deluxe Edition of that.

The “Matrix” hint photo might be a cryptic hint for Hand cocked… or I could just be seeing what I want to see. wink

The second one might be Paycheck but that person is “hollow” as the piece of the puzzle reveals. Wishful thinking I know…

if it helps, the official title of the picture on the right is: "Doctor Putting Human Puzzle Together"

The second one could be Medicine Man.

The second clue is obviously Nelson Riddle’s A Hole in the Head.

The second one could be Medicine Man.

Well he was a doctor, and he was trying to solve a puzzle - finding a cure for cancer!

Plus he looks a bit like Sean Connery....

Could we have a winner? Ooooh.....

Haha! Not that I don't like the way you think, but:

But it's the Record Store day announcement from a while back that really clinches it.

Yavar

P.S. Just to be clear, if anyone at Varese had actually told me what these releases are, I wouldn't be participating. So I don't actually know for certain but I think these are some of the clearest clues they have provided in some time.

Matrix and Brainstorm? I'm terrible at these things.
