Yes The Terminator reissue will come out on CD and digital on the same day. CD will have a similar presentation to Robocop with a simple digipack.
But the musical content will be the same as the vinyl. Brad Fiedel spent a lot of time working on this presentation. He went back to the original material to rebuild an album he feels would be a strong listening experience.
This a thousand times. I've never owned any previous edition of The Terminator, but Fiedel's love theme is among the most effective, most moving film music I've ever heard, and this new release with input from the composer himself sounds like the edition to own. It will be mine (the CD version).
(I do wish it contained "Burnin' in the Third Degree" though...must find a way to find that song somewhere...)
Can anyone do a recap for me? I've looked online at various sources but I want to hear it from you guys. How many times has the original Terminator score had an official release?

This is the third. The first was a song/score combi.
This is great news indeed! it'll be great to finally have this soundtrack with a proper mix.
Speaking of which, does anyone know how the 'new' mixes of the MGM 5.1 DVD release from 2001 compare with the (improperly mixed) 'definitive' edition CD and the original 1984 film mixes?
I know that a lot of the sound effects were redone for the 2001 DVD but I don't remember if the music was the same.
Anyway, I'm sure Brad Fiedel's new presentation of the score will be very close to his original vision on how the music should sound, but whether or not the mixes will be more faithful to the original film mixes I cannot tell....but I sure hope so.

I'm not a fan of the remixes, the sound effects don't match the original dialogue and foley, are very intrusive. I prefer the original mono track, which at least sounds all of a piece.
I cannot stand the new 5.1 mix. They replaced tons of sound effects and it's missing the metallic "blade slashing" sound that accompanies the scrolling titles. I fucking hate it. I'd rather watch the DVD with the original mono track.

I agree. The mono mix isn't on any of the UK releases, though. Need to get around to buying one of the R1 DVDs at some point.

I've read somewhere that the metallic blade slashing sound was not part of the music stems, instead it was part if the dialogue stems. That would explain why it's missing on the 'definitive' edition CD at least. It seems to be missing on the 'new' mix as well (which btw sounds like stereo to my ears).
EDIT: according to a guy commenting on this clip of the opening scene (the original mono mix) the sound effect is missing on the original VHS edition too.
Well I can tell you that the version I grew up watching on VHS in the mid-80s had that sound over the credits. It's possible that the later VHS version (after the lawsuit and additional end credit) is somehow missing it.
