You have to hand it to Fiedel - he really explored the rhythmic possibilities of sequencers to their max!

The main theme is 5/4 but he also uses 10/8 6/4, 6/8 7/8 9/8 12/8, 5/8!!!!!
Goldsmith probably enjoyed this score a lot!

"
Reese’s Death / Terminator Sits Up / "You're Terminated!" / End Credits: Final Suite
10:33 "

why wasn't it listed this way on the cd
instead of the meaningless
"End Credits: Final Suite"
?

thanks for clarifying

ps wasn't there music for the nightclub sequence? If so, is it on this release?

Yeah, it's in 'Tech Noir' and 'Sarah Calls Detectives' I believe. In the film, there's also a couple of rock tracks playing in the club as well.

Are you thinking of the tracks by Tahnee Cain and Tryanglz?

Here is a quick-'n'-dirty comparison of the track times between the DEFINITIVE EDITION and the new Milan; there are clearly enough discrepancies to warrant owning both.

Key:
DEFINITIVE EDITION track title/
Milan edition title/
DE track time / Milan track time

Terminator (Main Title) (same title on both)
* 2:14 2:40

The Terminator’s Arrival / Reese Chased / Sarah on Her Motorbike
Terminator’s Arrival / Reese Chased / Sarah on Motorbike
* 9:15 7:09

Gun Shop / Reese in Alley
Terminator Gets Guns / Search for Sarah
* 1:27 1:13

Reese Dreams of Future War
* 1:51 (only on Milan)

Sarah in the Bar
Sarah Watches News / Tech Noir
* 1:49 1:23

Tech Noir / Alley Chase
Matt & Ginger Killed / Sarah Calls Detectives
* 7:35 7:55

Garage Chase
Reese & Sarah in Garage
* 6:49 4:34

Arm & Eye Surgery (same title on both)
* 3:23 3:45

Police Station / Escape From Police Station
“I’ll be Back” / Police Station & Escape
* 4:47 3:46

Future Flashback / Terminator Infiltration
Future Flashback
* 4:18 3:47

“F*** You, A**hole”
* 1:09 (only on Milan)

Conversation by the Window / Love Scene
Love Scene
* 3:45 2:29

Tunnel Chase (same title on both)
* 3:54 5:13

Death by Fire / Terminator Gets Up (same title on both)
* 3:11 2:36

Factory Chase (same title on both)
* 3:54 3:57

Sarah’s Destiny / The Coming Storm
Reese’s Death / Terminator Sits Up / "You're Terminated!" / End Credits: Final Suite
* 10:45 10:33

Theme From "The Terminator" (August 29th, 1997, JUDGEMENT DAY ReMix)
The Terminator Theme (Extended Version)
* 3:54 4:20

I added it all up for both CDs. [My calculations may not be exact, so please correct me if I'm wrong.] The Definite Edition is 71:00, and the new Milan edition is 68:20. So the Milan edition is apparently missing 2:40 of music.

However, I know that sometimes listed track times can be off. I am curious, is there anything we know for certain is missing (other than the electric violin part in "I'll be Back"/Police Station and Escape)?

Either way, its (imo) only a minor loss, and I don't think it necessarily justifies buying the poorly mixed Definite Edition.

Is the version from Amazon UK the jewel case version? The ASIN is the same as the US version.

The one I ordered from Amazon UK is the digi-pack.

Belatedly so is mine, having ordered from amazon here in the UK.

I have transferred it to my iPod and most often listen to this amazing rendition of the score when on the treadmill at the gym. Being from NZ I prefer running two long scenic courses and for some weird reason the music fits really well.

I guess being a NZ expat here makes me feel like a 'stranger in a strange land' when seeing the NZ locations. Bit like the displacement in time theme of the film.

You cannot compare the two releases like this

e.g. The police station tracks differs on several Places

MILAN has added overlay BUT is has not build tension before Reese rescue Sarah

DEFINITE does not feature overlay but has Terminator theme when Reese knocks Down cop and has added Building sound before Reese enters and rescue Sarah

GARAGE CHASE -

Definite has 4:30 minutes of ambience music before the chase and the chase itself has music as it should be

MILAN has Little of the ambience but adds the music from the film and the chase is the film version where the first of the stingers (if you can call it that) are removed

that's only a Little bit of the Whole picture

So both versions almost differs from each other which leaves us with no real release of the score

There are actually three different releases of the score by my count. This one is surely different than it would have been since Fiedel himself says the actual masters are lost and it had to be taken largely from the film mix. That's no reason to be so dramatic about it.

It's an imperfect situation, but between this release and the "Definitive Edition" we have everything.

If you mean the OST then i would not call it a third release unless you go for the songs, but even the sound on that CD, mastered by Steve Hoffman, is as bad as his RAIDERS mastering

Just got my copy of this (yeah, I held off a long time - too many other great releases), so I decided to read through this thread. Was hoping this would replace the "Definite" edition as it's one I never got around to picking up. I see one needs both to have something close to "complete" as well as the album with the songs on it. That said, this isn't one of my grails, I just really like it, so I'm okay with what I'm getting. For the big fans, however, it's unfortunate we still don't have a definit-IVE version of this classic. smile

I don't see the point in covers (songs or themes) that sound EXACTLY like the original. Rearrange it, mix up the instrumentation, put your own stamp on it, do anything. Otherwise I might as well be listening to the original.

The original post is nearly 19 months old. Please remove "NEW" from the subject line!
