I thoroughly enjoyed the film, probably more so since I did not read a single review or check out anything written on Rottentomatoes.com. The effects and set design and art direction were nearly seamless in their construction and I did not really figure out what was going on until right at the reveal. However for me, the finale did had too much of a visual reference to another, much more well known and bigger hit but one that since then has become somewhat reviled.
And what is that? AFTER EARTH?
Perhaps Independence Day?
To me, the finale aboard the TET referenced Independence Day and The Matrix, but which one is TominAtl considering the "reviled" one?
Neither of those films are 'reviled' (in fact, they're mostly celebrated), so can't be them.
Finally saw this. I thought it was okay. The Missus rather liked it (which just demonstrates yet again that Tom Cruise, for better or worse, mostly makes guy movies that are really chick movies in disguise ). I don't actually mind chick movies at all, so it don't bother me none.
I thought the score was (mostly) dreadful. Sonic wallpaper.

My friend, I rarely see posts on which we disagree, but this is definitely one of them. I think Oblivion's score is hands-down, the best of 2013. Let the firebombing begin.

No, bud. No firebombing from me. You're a good mate and I respect your opinion. Just "different strokes for different folks", is all it is.
It's almost like a fan fiction written by a 15-year-old after having watched The Matrix and 2001 and many other sci-fi movies for the first time.
Basically like every other recent big budget Hollywood sci-fi movie. Just another soulless piece of bland art direction-as-movie with all its twists, plot points and visuals swiped from other, better movies -- most shamefully from Moon. And the score is just another completely flat, Zimmer-ish bore.
And yet there are some of us sci-fi lovers who could have turned our noses down at it but didn't. I saw it about a month ago and ended up not only watching it again several hours later, but also decided that if Amazon had the Blu-ray at a good discount, I would probably buy it. But those who detest it seem to do so with a fervent passion! I was genuinely touched by the final scene. And while I think I enjoyed the music, I'm afraid I'm going to have to hear it apart from the film before deciding for or against it.
I finally saw this! Thought it was a lot better than I expected it to be. Also enjoyed most of the music and saw that it was released through iTunes in an extended version. Did the extra downloadable tracks ever make it to a cd release?
Did the extra downloadable tracks ever make it to a cd release? Sadly nope. the expanded album is still iTunes only. That said, the CD is an exceptionally well-assembled album, all the major cues are there.

Ok, thanks. I'll probably just pick that up then. Thanks for the info.
