WINGS: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1206
Music by J. S. Zamecnik
Arranged and Orchestrated by Dominik Hauser
Limited Edition of 2000 Units

In honor of Paramount Pictures' 100th Anniversary, La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present J.S. Zamecnik's original score, arranged and orchestrated by Dominik Hauser, to the very first Academy Award for Best Picture, the sensational 1927 WWI-set epic drama/adventure WINGS, starring Clara Bow, Charles 'Buddy' Rogers, Richard Arlen and Gary Cooper, and directed by William A. Wellman. When it was decided to restore the classic WINGS for the studio's centennial, Paramount Pictures commissioned a new arrangement of J.S. Zamecnik's original score (originally played live to picture) to be newly recorded for the film. A prolific composer for films during the silent era, this release marks the very first time that an album’s worth of any Zamecnik score has ever been recorded and released. Hauser brings Zamecnik's original score, rich in dramatic, romantic and action material, (as well as peppered with classical compositions), to life in all of its robust, thematic splendor. This music, much like the film's phenomenal aerial sequences, simply soars to exciting heights. Produced by Dan Goldwasser, with music and album assembly produced by Jeannie Gayle Pool and Dominik Hauser, and mastered by James Nelson, this special release is limited to 2000 units. Jeannie Gayle Pool, who was asked to produce this full score restoration for Paramount, brings you behind the scenes of that process in her in-depth liner notes. What better way to commemorate a historic film restoration than to release a piece of film music history!

GALAXY QUEST: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1208
Music by David Newman
Limited Edition of 3000 Units

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures presents the premiere official soundtrack release of the original motion picture score to the 1999 Dreamworks sci-fi action/comedy GALAXY QUEST, starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell and directed by Dean Parisot. Acclaimed composer David Newman (SERENITY, SCOOBY DOO, ICE AGE, THE PHANTOM) pulls off an impressive musical feat, employing a comic touch while skillfully supporting the film’s legitimate, considerable sci-fi action and well-drawn character relationships. Newman continues in the rich tradition of the Newman family musical legacy, composing a score that employs big choral passages and wondrous melodic themes. Released previously only as a composer-produced promo CD, this official, longer and remastered edition, produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, sounds stellar and features exclusive liner notes by film music writer Tim Greiving. This is a limited edition of 3000 units.

This is a limited edition of 1000 units.

Long considered one of the maestro's best scores in collaboration with Mr. Spielberg, this masterwork is finally presented here in a worthy 2-CD release that contains more than 140 mins of music, including bonus alternate and unused cues, greatly expanding the score's original 1991 album assembly with more than 65 minutes of music previously unreleased in any official format. Produced by Didier C. Deutsch and Mark G. Wilder, mastered by Mark G. Wilder and Maria Triana and supervised and approved by John Williams, this expanded reissue features amazing art design by Jim Titus and exclusive, in-depth liners from film music writer Daniel Schweiger. It’s an amazing soundtrack experience that will have you never wanting to grow up!

Music by Alfred Newman
Limited Edition of 2000 Units

A rich, complex and important work in the Newman cannon, this powerful score injects heart into this film’s large canvas while masterfully propelling its drama and spectacle. Studio head Darryl Zanuck said it best at the time, “I wish I could find some way to tell you that this is the greatest score ever written without sounding like the publicity department – but it is.” Produced by Nick Redman, restored by Mike Matessino and mastered by Daniel Hersch, this remastered and expanded 2-CD SET sounds magnificent, is slightly longer than previous releases and features insightful liner notes from writer Julie Kirgo. This is a limited edition of 2000 units.

I highly recommend StarHawk. I was unfamiliar with it, but it's an incredibly rousing and adventurous score. It could accompany a great big action film, at times a western, or science fiction. It's simply epic and highly addictive. I have minimal exposure to video game scores, and it was my first exposure to Lennertz. Color me impressed. Check it out.

JANE EYRE is amazing, with what is one of John's best themes. Wish I could afford it, but it's lovely to see it available again.

Man, those Starhawk samples sound so great! I wasn't going to order this yet, but I may give in. Lennertz has done it again - he needs to score some big-budget action flicks, not just family movies and comedies. On a related note, I am anticipating his score to Revolution this fall.

Starhawk is OK, but not if you are looking for the quality orchestral writing Lennertz gave us in Warhawk. It has a solid main theme and a decent secondary theme but a lot of the score is fairly blah.

I really don't want to hate on the score but I was quite disappointed by Lennetz' choice to use so much synthesizer, excessive percussion, and electric guitar among other things for what could have been a big orchestral bombast. It is quite a shame because I really like the main theme, and it is used pretty solidly when it appears later in the score.

If you like your music to have plenty of metal guitars, western guitars, harmonicas, tribal percussion, and all that over your orchestra then sure check it out. Fans of Bear McCreary's style of writing in his recent TV and Video Game scores will probably enjoy it as well.

The music is actually composed for something, y'know. All those instruments are used appropriately.

I don't doubt his reasons for his choices, as he explained clearly enough in the interview that was posted earlier, but I just want to make sure people are clear with the type of music they are getting. If they like all the instruments used then great, give it a listen and they may enjoy it like others in this thread and friends of mine who love it as well.

I thought the samples for Lennertz's StarHawk sounded great. Give this guy an epic Hollywood movie. Some of his choices in instruments reminded me a bit of Newman's Serenity.
