No matter what Mr. thielmann did with the orchestra, the fox orch was on strike so he probably didn't do anything.
INteresting photos of Lionel Newman and Johnny Mathis. I can't imagine fox flying Mathis to germany to record his little number in the film.
It may be my (poor) eyesight ... but I can't get the title on that music sheet, held by Mr. Newman, to read A Certain Smile.
But, then, it doesn't read The Best of Everything either!
According to on-line Discography database, the 45rpm single release of the song, as included on the Album (as opposed the to film score), is conducted by Ray Ellis.
I would love to know the definitive answer - for the score as a whole - so that I can update my database.
A lovely score, albeit a little repetitive with that gorgeous melody.
I'm also pleased I get to make a geek remark: The first theme played in "The Country Market" previously appeared in DADDY LONG LEGS (1955). I believe it was the scene with the children (I only have the movie on LD, and so cannot confirm).
