According to the site where i find film score sheet there should be some music pieces to THE BIRDS. I have not seen them myself as of this writing so I cannot comment further on them.

In the film there is no score but electronic Bird-sounds.

If there should be a real score written before it was decided to go with electroninc effects could it have been re-recorded OR could it be a task to re-record it???

Or has it already been recorded?

I for one believe this film would ahve been even more effective with a score. I find musicless films a tad boring, not matter how "realistic" the film makers think they are.

There was never any written score I'm aware of--Herrmann was just onboard as an advisor. And I find the film perfectly effective without a score.

I'll go investigate it - while I don't know anything about it I still think it would be fun to do

About the film - I find that a remix ala. disney's SLEEPING BEAUTY could do well - there was some hiss before the "sounding birds" were heard on the dvd.

EDIT:'

There exist one piece on 14 pages - That's all I Know so far. I'm gonna dig into it.

I'm already on it BUT please beware that it could be some created piece by someone that has it listed like THE BIRDS and then fooled everyone into believing it to be piece to this film.

On the other hands I've seen the film and I find the ending scene (where she says "no......no.....no......" to be the best scene in the film.

UPDATE:

It turns out to be an Hermannesque score by Bill Wrobel. So we have a piece where a guy have tried to create some music to THE BIRDS in the Hermann-style.

Well that settles it. So far no music exist for THE BIRDS. wink

Jesus, this again....

Herrmann composed NO music for THE BIRDS. There is no proper score, only the sound effects of bird cries, created electronically, which function as the 'score'. Herrmann gets the title 'Musical Consultant', but he did not compose anything for the film.

Herrmann is listed in the credits as "Sound consultant." Enigmatic, but there it is. The film is fine without a score.

Well the "bird sounds" were made by an electronic musical instrument... the Mixtur-Trautonium.
Oskar Sala did the sound composition.

Bill Wrobel posts here, and has his own 'Filmscore Rundowns' site that provides musical technical descriptions in words, of pieces that aren't allowed to be posted as scoresheets or soundfiles for copyright reasons. He's an 'expert' on Herrmann and you can read a lot of his insights over on the 'Talking Herrmann' forum. As a musician himself, he attempts these exercises as experiments in understanding the compositional techniques.

As pointed out above, many of the birdsounds were 'composed' effects by another composer, and Herrmann had supervision of that. You may regard it as an avante-garde composition. A s a quirky CD it could still sell as an OST if located.

The work INVADERS FROM MARS by Young comes to my mind here.

Does anyone have the latest dvd of The Birds, because all the bird "songs" play on the on screen menu. They're all different and recognizable from the film. Check it out.

Most of Sala's tapes are now at the German Museum in Munich... not sure if the Birds are amongst them...

Here is an article about the problems they have...
