Oh dear. How about a link so we can ALL see what it is you're talking about. Sounds like a load of hooey to me, which this thread has been since post number one.

Can be found on Amazon too: search for "ALFRED HITCHCOCK: THE CLASSIC SOUNDTRACK COLLECTION"

Well, there are many rarities in that set. And you can be sure than anything that hasn't been commercially released has been taken directly from the mixed film tracks. Looks as if THE BIRDS is a great compilation of bird sounds.

I saw this box-set in our HMV the other day for £8.99. That's cheap for 4 discs!!
It had five full scores (I think) and lots of tracks from Hitchcock's ancient stuff.

Quoting Craig Spaulding from Screen Archives:

“Just got a sample of the set and THE BIRDS is birds and effects from a film effects track not the isolated birds sounds, but kinda' funny. A MAJOR boot!!! Craig/SAE”

Plus, it appears they simply swiped Varese’s VERTIGO release and Intrada’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST, at least as seen from the artwork on the front cover.

In other words, as I stated a few posts ago - a load of hooey.

I've seen youtube videos where people have placed music with scenes from the movie. Here is one with original music composed for it.

There are a ton of YouTube attempts at scoring either one sequence or the entire film. One for the entire film is fascinating, as it seems to literally want to be Vertigo/Psycho. Having a community orchestra play it along with the film isn't that helpful, but every attempt fails, which is fascinating. It somehow lessens the suspense rather than help.

One does occasionally wonder what Mr. Herrmann might have come up with because he, unlike most film composers who are coming up these days, understood the point of having music in a film.

Sound Consultant BERNARD HERRMANN is all the credits say. per the bio, it appeared the whole ordeal was nothing more than a fun trip to Germany for Hitch and Herrmann.

Of the possible scoring videos, can you suggest a pecking order of good to bad? I know it might take alot of work but maybe you could wing it. I'm sure others here will egg you on for suggestions.
