Some month ago, a documentary about the Sherman Brothers called "The Boys - The Sherman Brothers' Story" (produced by their sons) was announced. I loved the trailer and I'm looking forward watching this movie. ... but where?

Did anybody see it?
Does anybody know something about an eventual DVD release?

The rumor is that it may come in the fall as an entry in the revamped/redesigned Walt Disney Treasures DVD series.

I saw this in Westwood last year.

Actually, it was Marc Shaiman who posted about it on his Facebook page, that got me to really make it a point of getting out to see it.

It's a very moving and sad documentary in that the two brothers became estranged for many, many years.

I HIGHLY recommend the film. It does a great job of telling their story and celebrating their music.

O.K. right, I didn't know that it's pushed back.

Glad you saw and liked it, James. The trailer evokes this melancholy you mentioned.

So I'm waiting and hoping for an Walt Disney Treasures DVD release, Travelling Matt.

Yes!

James just curous, are the brothers closer now? Or are they still estranged?

I saw it listed in a local film festival but missed it. I'm dying to see it.

LaughingPlace.com has a link where you can rent it from iTunes, if you don't want to wait:

They also say, "although rumors continue to circulate that Disney will release this documentary on DVD, with recent comments indicating it could be packaged with documentaries "Waking Sleeping Beauty" and "Walt and El Grupo," there has been no official announcement of its arrival."

This would coincide with what I read elsewhere that these three new titles would make up a "wave" of Disney Treasures DVDs for this year. I really hope they don't do it this way, as the annual Treasures series has been soley dedicated to classic animation and vintage programs for almost ten years now.

But I still want them to get The Boys out on disc. I'm dying to see it too.

I saw the film last year. (It played commercially in one theater in the Washington D.C. area for two weeks.) I highly recommend the film and would by it on DVD in an instant. The producers seem to have had complete access to the Disney vaults, and there are plenty of film clips of the brothers' songs, comments by the brothers themselves, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and pictures. A number of artists who worked with the Shermans, and many contemporary artists as well, provide on-camera insights and appreciations of their work. The film also covers their non-Disney work such as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Tom Sawyer," "Huckleberry Finn," and "The Slipper and the Rose."

Here's the trailer for the film:

If you like the music of the Sherman Brothers, look for a new musical coming to Broadway (maybe as soon as the end of this year).
It's a trunk musical consisting of Sherman songs made up of songs too dark for the likes of Disney, it incorporates a great deal of stage magic, and is slated to star Florence Henderson.

The film was made by the sons of the Sherman Brothers who had met only once as children if I recall correctly. That is how estranged their fathers were.

As to their relationship now, I don't think it's completely healed but see the film when you can as it goes up to the premiere of "Mary Poppins" on the stage where they were both in attendance.

Sorry. I didn't realize someone else posted the trailer above.

Not more? Heck, they're even younger than my grandfather (who just turned 85, but is in crappy health). I haven't seen them much in the spotlight in the last few years, though, so good to see that they've been active with this tribute film.

Richard M. Sherman was in Hamburg, Germany back in 2007 when we promoted the Platinum DVD release of Disney's Jungle Book ... luckily I got his autograph on my German Jungle Book soundtrack CD smile

Haven't seen the documentary yet, though...

This would be wonderful!
The other two documentaries seem to be quite interesting as well. So hopefully, the rumours are right.

Like a lot of people (here on the board) I grew up with the Sherman Songs. I loved this music when I was a kid. Nothing has changed.
It struck me when I learned, that the people behind those fantastic, optimistic and feel good songs had such an "alternating" relationship.
