How does it compare with the critically acclaimed Christopher Young scores in the set?

It's more action oriented, less dark. I enjoy it for different reasons than the Young scores. It's fantastic though!

Haven't played it in ages but I think i's at least as good as (or nearly).Big and Ballsy.

I'm not a big fan of part III, which is probably the most hollywood of the trilogy and turns Pinhead into a Freddy Krueger boogeyman.

I recently purchased the remastered trilogy digipack (Hellraiser Chronicles) with the first 3 scores. I guess I don't mind having Miller's in there as well but Chris Young's scores are to me what Hellraiser is about. The Miller score is fun as sequels go, but the complexity, dread and beauty of Young's music it aint.

Regarding Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth, I always loved the song "Hellraiser" the band Motorhead recorded for it (Lemmy wrote the original for Ozzy back in the day and for Hellraiser III performs his own and IMO better version).

The score itself is great, as mentioned above, not as gothic, but, full of big action/horror cues. A good exciting horror score, really a little gem. I remember picking this up at Record Surplus on my first LA trip

I know I'm in the minority but as a big fan of both composers I actually prefer Miller's score to both of Young's. Maybe it's the Goldsmithian rhythmic action music (not a ripoff or anything, I can still tell it's Miller). I think it's just a fantastic score, as are most by Miller...wish more of his stuff were released.

And I know the fan favorite of the trilogy is Young's second score but I actually prefer his first. Not as overblown (and "bombastic" I guess is what people like) but still very thematic and creepy as heck.

I've always wondered if Stokowski's arrangement of Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C-Sharp Minor" (aka "The Bells of Moscow") was the inspiration for the whole HELLRAISER music world. Though I might just be crazy.

Hell on Earth has great music by Miller and I especially love the Emergency room track (featured at the Boiler room massacre and the ending again)

Young had strong themes, and will forever be THE composer for the Hellraiser mythos, but Millers is equally good here i.m.o

I find it much more enjoyable than both of Young's earlier efforts by a long way (some of that is because I think that Young's Hellraiser scores are very much overrated). HR3: Hell on Earth definitely is more action based (Goldsmith action to be specific), and there's a nearly constant intensity about it that makes it attractive.

Often overlooked, but also worth checking out, is Daniel Licht's score to Hellraiser: Bloodline. Though best known for his work on Dexter, Licht wrote some solid, Young-ish horror and thriller scores back in the 90s.

The Licht effort is a wonderful follow up to both the Young and Miller scores. Bloodline has gotten it's fair share of spins over the years. I come back for the more subtle, almost lyrical, parts again and again.

I don't play the overblown Young scores any more. Maybe if the sound was better they would be less headache-inducing.
The Miller score gets more plays from me and I think it's very good. I've been an admirer of his since I heard is fine score for Living in Peril.

Why have I never heard this score?!? I am ashamed, and avow to remedy the situation posthaste.

I've heard only one Randy Miller score so far, and it's a gem:

Very true... And, Licht, of course, worked with Young on a few projects. Also try is THINNER and BAD MOON scores. Good stuff. Oops... one more... CHILDREN OF THE CORN: THE FINAL SACRIFICE... absolutely terrific...

Back to Miller... The score is a knockout action score. The most played of the series (when they were still theatricals and not those idiotic direct to vid's).

I really like this Randy Miller score. Parts remind me of Capricorn One mashed harshly with Hellraiser. It's really decent and sounds big and punchy.
