Peter Auty.
Finally got his credit and recognition in recent years

One of those interminable TV music channels in the UK that seems to have been playing Christmas music since September always plays his version instead of Jones'.

As a synthwave fan--that is fantastic!

Thank you, johnnymouse and solium! My whole reason for bumping this thread years later was to get some discussion going on this particular rendition, but alas, you're the only ones who responded while the discussion veered back to the original score, or other traditional versions of the song.

Your track sounds like Jean Michel Jarre did the Snowman!

Here's one of my favourite versions - piano solo.

Indeed it does! Probably one of the reasons for why I like it so much.

Early in 1978 i went in an electrical store, that did everything from fridges to cookers to stereos to ...those new fangled Phillips video machines. The cassettes were double decker ones. While in the shop they were playing this electronic music and i asked the guy what it was. He produced the cover of Oxygene LP, by Jean Michel Jarre. I knew the surname but didnt know if they were connected. Anyway, we bought the Phillips video machine - i think it was 250 pounds - a fuck of a lot then - about 8 weeks wages for me - AND i went out and got oxygene too. Then equinox.

Thor, I enjoyed that interpretation of "WitA", cheers for posting it! I've been on a Synthwave jag for the better part of the year, though my favorite artist in that genre is The Midnight. I've actually purchased all of their instrumental releases upon discovering Nocturnal—that album, and especially the title track, stayed in constant rotation for about 6 months!

As for the topic, here's another rendition of "WitA", this one by Jeff Johnson, a very talented artist who is highly regarded, though also highly obscure, within the very vertical Christian Music market.

This is no slight on your post Litefoot, and if you enjoy that version all power to you! But if there's one thing that really bugs me about tracks like this, it's the use of that bloody word "Epic." ugh I hate it! big grin

I saw one the other day.... "Back To The Future..... Epic Version." Don't be daft. It's epic anyway smile

Anyway... back on topic. Love love love love love The Snowman. It's on near constant repeat this time of year. The original LP was definitely a bit of a gateway into film and tv music for little Jim.

Love that solo piano version you posted above. Gorgeous.

It's a word commonly used to describe trailer music from the likes of Audiomachine, Two Steps from Hell, and Really Slow Motion, all of whom specialise in composing music fror TV, film and game trailers. You will see it used to describe their work on YouTube to give an idea of the style you are listening to. Expect there to be lots of drums for the 'epic' stuff.

Yeah, and I think that's probably where my dislike of it stems from. Modern trailer music tends to rub me up the wrong way. There are a few times that my ears might prick up a bit.. but the whole "epic" thing to me just seems to blend into one big dramatic drum fest with no dynamics. Which is a shame. Because a bit of dramatic drum fest can be great if done right. Funny I can turn my nose up at a modern action trailer, but love the intro to Stingray big grin

There is a Live-to-Film concert program of ‘The Snowman’ where the entire score is performed by a live orchestra on stage along with a feature-length screening of the film. Orchestras around the world have book this concert during the holiday season every year, except this year of course. If an orchestra doesn’t book this during the said season, then it would be ‘Home Alone – In Concert’.

Who wouldn't? smile It's one of the great intros to any TV series, ever!

Ugh! Really? Sounds like Tron Legacy. And I like Tron Legacy. big grin
Don't like this though. The vocals don't match the music at all. I couldn't make it to the end.
