Perseverance Records, in a collaboration with Spectral Shimmers Productions, is about to launch the Kickstarter-campaign for the first album of their Horner re-recording project: The complete scores of The Hand and The Dresser, with a possible bonus of a handful of small concert pieces written by Horner in the 1970’s.

The Kickstarter will launch on March 7th!

Exciting news! Not the 'complete' bit, necessarily, but that these heretofore unreleased(?) Horner scores get the royal rerecording treatment. I had THE HAND on a bootleg once. It was pretty rough listening, but that may also be due to the poor sound quality. THE DRESSER, I've never even heard.

Hope this comes to fruition!

Sounds good.
Matt Dunkley is a good start to have on board for the project.
A VERY accomplished composer/conductor/arranger/orchestrator in his own right.
I'll be interested to read what orchestra will be tackling the music (although THE DRESSER, like TESTAMENT, is a small ensemble).
But yeah, looks decent so far.

Great news. The Hand has been floating around on bootleg forever so it'll be good to have a proper version at last!

No Fish Police=No Sale!

The fish police ALWAYS get the short end of the stick!

In all seriousness, intrigued to see this campaign and I'll definitely support.

Looks like Eric Woods already beat us to the announcement!

We are VERY thrilled to work on this project and have secured the talent of many esteemed colleagues in the film music world to collaborate on these recordings. I will not give out any names as that is better left for the updates, so some of the mystery is still kept, but I can say that the orchestra, which Matt will be conducting, is none other than the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

We hope you all will be supporting this campaign. Here is a link to the pre-launch page:

By the way: These recordings are endorsed by James' widow, Sara Horner. She recorded a video that is featured on the KS page (not visible yet.)

And there you have it...

Not at all! We need all the support we can get. Your contribution is very much appreciated.

I saw The Dresser early in its theatrical run and was totally wowed. One of the best pure acting films I've ever seen in my life, tour de force stuff. A fella I was acquainted with played the Edward Fox role on the Broadway stage. Tom Courtenay transferred his performance brilliantly from there to the screen. Funny thing about the score, though, is that all I remember is the haunting music at the end that spilled over into the closing credits.

I am very excited to hear about this and will be contributing as well. I'm so glad that there are others out there willing to see this through and get this hard to obtain music in our hands (no pun intended).

There was a time when I was skeptical of re-recordings but as we've gotten so many faithful recordings to the originals over the years I am fully on board.

Nice, too, that the Horner estate - Sara Horner, specifically - is fully supporting this as well.

The Horner riches continue.

Great. I'm in.
I didn't pick up any of the recent very early Horner releases - Battle Beyond the Stars, Deadly Blessing, or Humanoids from the Deep, I'm familiar enough with the scores and they're just not likely to get much play at this stage with my listening habits, but a new recording is something else. And an enterprise to get unreleased music out there is something else again.
I saw The Hand yonks ago, I remember I stayed up to watch it because Horner was on the credits. I can't recall now what the score is like, Wolfen-ish I wanna say? Because I recall digging it. But whatever the case I'm excited to hear it again.

If this CD contains the complete score to THE HAND (maybe 35-40 minutes) plus THE DRESSER (15 minutes tops), and then ONE of those bonus 70s classical pieces could be SPECTRAL SHIMMERS (12 minutes).
What a CD that will be.
All newly recorded under Matt Dunkley with the Czech orchestra.

That would indeed be a fascinating disc.

What is the reason these are being recorded anew instead of releasing the original tracks?

...THE DRESSER (15 minutes tops)...

Well, that explains why I don't remember it save for the ending which had a haunting D'Orso type doing her thing.
