James made clear he was ending the Tadlow recordings because of not being able to maintain the huge financial losses any further. Big scores like Ben-Hur or I'm sure even Jerry Goldsmith's QB VII are just so expensive to fund that even if they sell 3000+ copies he's guaranteed a loss. But I suspect that the Thriller scores, since they utilize a much smaller orchestra, make it much easier to break even, especially with the name "Goldsmith" on them (which is maybe why he's so annoyed that people keep telling him to record Thriller scores by other composers). Maybe James has *already* broken even on Thriller, which would make a Vol. 2 (and even a Vol. 3 with his last six episodes) very smart to do indeed. And let's not forget on Thriller James has a co-producer/co-funder: reconstructionist Leigh Phillips. Yavar

As noted by Yavar, all Tadlow Music CDs recorded over 16 years are done as a "labour of love" because not one of them has ever broken even...many never get anywhere close! That is why any of the choices made for release on Tadlow are purely personal because they are scores I love. And yes CONAN was probably the most successful but that was a commission by Prometheus Records ...so I was just hired to produce the recording. That is why when I do get the odd enquiry about helping to find a recording I always say "do not expect to get all of your investment back" ... I never have! Just curious, James...has this now changed, in light of the good sales (over 1000 in one day -- wow!) and substantially lower recording costs of Thriller? Yavar

Fa Glad to hear the first volume is such a success! How could it not be with all the Goldsmith fanatics on this board (myself included)

Man, what splendid 'music score' times we live in. Finally grabbed a copy of this and I'm spinning it now. I never watched the original series, so I've never heard a note of this 'new' Jerry Goldsmith music. What a fine collection of scores! Hearing echoes of things like COMA, ILLUSTRATED MAN, FREUD and his relative scores to TWILIGHT ZONE TV series brings a smile to ones face. Pure Goldsmith. Lovely packaging too. Not knowing the shows, reading the notes and then being able to imagine the music in support of the story is great. That End Title suite is a truly stupendous album closer too! Bravo! The only score I haven't fallen for immediately is the last one (Yours Truly, Jack The Ripper). Dunno why, but it didn't resonate with me as much. Maybe cos parts of it remind me of LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER, a score I've never warmed to. Anyway. Big applause to everyone involved in the production of this amazing release! Roll on Vol 2 (which I won't delay as much on purchase, that's for sure).

This is probably just a fantasy of mine but I am going to campaign for the sales of this release like no Tadlow release before, possibly buying extra copies as gifts, so the possibility of a volume 2 is feasible. These may include his greatest non-epic TV scoring ever! Maybe pat yourself on the back a little. At about 3:11:56-ish in this Goldsmith Odyssey episode, Leigh talks about the surprising sales of volume 1. https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/8953597-episode-30-thriller-mr-george-1961
