There's no mention of John Barry and the only titled tracks says "Electronic Dance" and "Professiinal Crumble" which don't sound like score tracks.

A quick check on IMDB under "Soundtrack" shows a listing for a track called 'Electronic Dance' by Billy Mitchell (and the above mentioned 'Los Angeles'). Obviously not a score track, but possibly relevant?

Tell you what, I'll be the guinea pig - have walkabout e-mail me with a price and if I like the price I'll buy it right now and then let everyone know what it is. I'm doubting it's much of anything but I like being a guinea pig.

Folks, yes Los Angeles, Professional Crumble and Ekectronic Dance are non-Barry tracks in the film.

Right now I'm intrigued by the possibility it could be a demo pressing of that rumoured sountrack album that never got produced but might end up containing nothing additional to what's on the POO LP.

Pending having it played.

It could still end up being a radii interview disc with the songs from the film on it.

Intriguing thiugh

Even if this LP has actual score tracks by John Barry, how much of his music would fit considering there are already three non-score tracks on the vinyl? Let's not get too excited about this.

Quickly scanning several statement here, in this discussion, no one mentions the Walk About LP: GSF 1005. Music by John Barry...

Quickly scanning several statement here, in this discussion, no one mentions the Walk About LP: GSF 1005. Music by John Barry...

That LP has already been mentioned. It had 8 unique score tracks, with the first two repeated to fill out the running time. About 20 minutes of score which the repetition fills out to about 25.

The LP in question has 14 cuts of which 3 are non-Barry and 11 are unidentified but look like they are film slates.

It is different from GSF 1005 but we might find the score tracks are just the same as what was on the POO LP GSF 1005. Indeed we might yet discover that the POO LP was lifted from another copy of this same thing..

I suspect it might be because although we don't 100% know what the music is, they are labelled like score slates and the first cut is M-8 and the second cut is M-5 / M-11 (composite).

If they are scoring slates then this implies that cut 2 on this mystery LP occurs earlier in the film than cut 1 and is a blend of two score cues. Well that's exactly what the first two cuts on GSF-1005 were like.

But if these are score slates then this private LP has 11 cuts whereas GSF-1005 only had 8 plus 2 repeated.

I'm surprised Hymnen and Gasoline Alley aren't on it unless this is a test pressing for an abandoned album and they already knew they couldn't include it.

Here's the full track list on the mystery LP:

Side A:

1. M-8
2. M-5 / M-11 (composite)
3. M-10
4. M-16
5. M-20A
6. M-24
7. M-23

Side B:

1. M-19
2. LOS ANGELES
3. M-14
4. ELECTRONIC DANCE
5. PROFESSIONAL CRUMBLE
6. M-35
7. M-21

It still needs to be played to establish what this really is but just those first two cuts with their numbering and composite nature make me think they are the same as the first two cuts on GSF-1005, but unless one of those other 'M' tracks turns out to be, say, Hymnen (and that seems unlikely) and unless two of those other 'M' tracks are just the same as cuts 1 and 2 on Side A, then that would point at this LP having three more score tracks than GSF-1005. The naming also suggests there was an alternate version of M-20 but that's obviously not on this disc.

Cheers

Has anyone done a breakdown of the cues in the actual film to see if there are score tracks in the film that did not appear on the GSF LP or other non-Barry cues used in the film in addition to the ones already identified?

Thanks so much for all the information.....I have sent photos to Stephen Woolston and he has established roughly what it might be. But it needs further investigations...i.e. someone needs to listen to the tracks ! I will not be sending out further photos as I don't think it would help. Stephen is an expert. So what to do next...I think I might get it put onto a CD, just for a reference and then compare with the Original Score.
But thanks for the interest everyone.
Regards
Caroline

Even if it is the same as the known score LP, this might still be monaural vs stereo!

Agreed, Stefan, the mention of "stereo" is certainly intriguing.

Yes, there are several cues in the film that did not make the GSF-1005 bootleg LP.

Including:

1. The opening native music

2. The sunset sequence

3. The 'French' music for the comedic expedition / balloons sequence

4. The sequence where the Aborigine boy stands on one leg and we get that surreal montage

5. The sequence where the Aborigine boy stalks Jenny Agutter's character with mating rites

6. The actual end title music, which was also not recorded for the Silva Screen recording, interestingly.

I'm not saying all of these are by Barry by the way, just saying they're not on the POO LP.

There's Stockhausen's Hymnen and Gasoline Alley, both used in the film but not listed on this private LP.

Cheers

Great work on this, Stephen. I'm looking forward to the update on what is on this album once someone has a chance to listen to it.

Here's an inventory of all the music cues in the film.

I can't promise these all correspond with slates because I don't know if Jenny Agutter humming Skye Boat is a slate and it's not always clear whether two separated cues are two slates or one slate split.

However, you can see the numbers 8, 5/11 and 10 correspond with the first three tracks on this private LP and the first three tracks on GSF-1005.

WALKABOUT

1. Extract from Hymnen (Stockhausen)
2. Native music #1
3. Native music #2 (dials in and out)
4. Radio Source - Gasoline Alley (Rod Stewart)
5. The Children #1 (GSF-1005 side A track 2/a)
6. Radio Source - unidentified song
7. Sunset (Silva Screen track 4)
8. Main Theme ("It's the Sea!") (GSF-1005 side A track 1)
9. Stranded #1 (short version)
10. Stranded #2 (longer version) (GSF-1005 side A track 3)
11. The Children #2 (GSF-1005 side A track 2/b)
12. Source, Skye Boat - hummed by Jenny Agutter
13. By The Water Well #1 (Silva Screen track 4)
14. Extract from Hymnen (Stockhausen)
15. By The Water Well #2 (Silva Screen track 4)
16. By The Water Well #3 (Silva Screen track 4)
17. Extract from Hymnen (Stockhausen)
18. The Three Of Us (Water!) (GSF-1005 side A track 6)
19. Survival Test (GSF-1005 side A track 4) (dials in and out in film)
20. Hunting (just a single sustained tension note)
21. Extract from Hymnen (Stockhausen)
22. Passage of Time, Walking in the Sun (Silva Screen track 4)
23. Together At Sunset (a misnomer!) (GSF-1005 side B track 1)
24. Segue to Expedition Scene (overlaid with Hymnen?)
25. Expedition (Italian style comedy music) [Note 1]
26. Back To Nature (GSF-1005 side B track 2)
27. Radio Source - Los Angeles (Warren Marley)
28. Settlement Music, Honky Tonk style [Note 2]
29. The Journey (GSF-1005 side A track 5)
30. The Deserted Settlement #1 (Ghostly) (Silva Screen track 8)
31. The Deserted Settlement #2 (Romantic) (Silva Screen track 8)
32. The Road (very short, extract from Hymnen?)
33. White Hunters (time stop sequence)
34. Aborigine Boy Heartbroken (Silva Screen track 8)
35. Native music #3 (The Final Dance) (dials in and out)
36. The Final Dance #1 (Silva Screen track 8)
37. Radio Source - Electronic Dance (Billy Mitchel)
38. The Final Dance #2 (Silva Screen track 8)
39. Extract from Hymnen (Stockhausen) (very short)
40. Radio Source (jaunty tune) [Note 3]
41. Abandoned Mine (just two long notes)
42. Remembering - End Title [Note 4]

Notes:

1. Not clear if this is Barry, library music or even famous Italian film music I should recognise, but it is similar-ish to "Café" from The Appointment

2. Doesn't sound like Barry but you never know

3. Not clear if this is Barry but it is similar to a radio source cue recorded by Barry on The Tamarind Seed

4. Not released on either GSF-1005 or the Silva Screen recording

Cheers
