I have a Vinyl Record, Stereo, A and R Records.....the centre label is typed, tracks 1 - 7 on each side.

They are listed with either names or numbers including Los Angles, Electronic Dance, Professional Crumble.....the others have numbers . Do not have a Record Player, so not sure what the music is but am assuming it is the original film score.....

Perhaps someone out there knows what this is.

Regards,
Caroline

Can you be a little more specific about the numbers? Do you have any numbers (and/ or letters) carved on the inner ring of the label? Or mentioned on the label itself? Otherwise this is an almost impossible task to recognise it.
Maybe it is possible for you to place some pictures here. What makes you so sure that this is a soundtrack record?
A&R records is not really known for soundtracks releases, Don't you mean A&M records possibly?

Not sure how to attach a photo to this website sorry.....its def. A & R records, address 322 West 48th
Street. NY10036 is printed on the label. The tracks are typed on, so might just be an early demo.
7 on each side.
Am interested to sell this record, I do have provenance but not prepared to share it at this point.
Regards.

Can you see if these tracks are similar on the A and the B side? However, if you have only this information, you must find a recordplayer somewhere and just play the record. If you do not recognise the music maybe Shazam could help you find out. Good luck! Let us know if you have more info regarding this record.
Btw A&R records (or A&R Recording) is more known for releasing Pop artists (not soundtracks) like: James Brown, Ramsey Lewis, Miles Davis, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Elton John, the Jacksons and Led Zeppelin just to name a few wink
So this really could be an interesting find nonetheless.

This is pretty interesting:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067959/soundtrack

https://www.discogs.com/de/Warren-Marley-Something-Better/release/7117102

So this is most likely really a soundtrack album. Could you provide the full track listing - with artists?

Many thanks in advance smile

I didn't say it's the LP mentioned above. Just this: the song "Los Angeles" seems to have been distributed by A & R Records - and it IS in the movie "Walkabout", as is a song called "Electronic Dance". I'm just wondering if this could really be a soundtrack album for "Walkabout"...

There were rumours of a planned Walkabout soundtrack album that would have had a similar configuration to the Midnight Cowboy album, i.e. a handful of score tracks mixed with the Stockhausen, etc.

But it was never produced.

It is always possible a demo of an album was cut, but on the scant information presented here I'd suggest there's no way anyone could confirm one way or the other what we've got here.

Without more information or sound samples, there's nothing to latch on to.

Cheers

I wouldn't assume it's the Walkabout soundtrack album, there are other music projects that go by the name Walkabout.

Ok I understand, you have a point. If this is a promo for the score for Walkabout by Barry it would be a great find, however the label itself doesn't encourage or support filmscores in anyway...that puzzles me.

Apologies for being so mysterious, but I was just sounding out if this record has any value/interest. I am 100% sure that it is a Demo. As I say I do have solid provenance.
What do you think the market value for this would be. We have had this record sitting in a cupboard since the 70's. Despite the family connection, feel it should go to someone who is really interested.

Take some pictures. Post them somewhere and use the “special code legend” on the side of the posting field to see how to link to them. Try to find a phonograph and see what's on the wax.

I understand that it is impossible for anyone to get this without photos. As I don't know how to add them to this site, if anyone would like a photo, I suppose I could e mail them direct to whoever whats them, if that is allowed from this site, I don't know
My e mail is verbenapark@gmail.com

If this really is the Walkabout film score, this LP should be find it's way to audio engineers to restore it so it can be issued properly.

If it really is a test pressing or 'personal copy' of the Walkabout film score, it would be worth a lot, but since nobody actually knows whether that's what this is, I can't see anybody risking a lot of money.

However since Phil Ramone produced the Walkabout recording, there is a positive link with A&R there. Is this from Phil Ramone's private library or something?

Cheers

OK, I have corresponded with Caroline and have seen the photos.

The sleeve shows this disc was cut and sent to Si Litvinoff's hotel so this supports it is connscted to the film.

However we still don't clearly know what it is.

The score?

Pre-scoring demos?

A bunch of possible songs and electronic music cut for Si's consideration?

A deno of a soundtrack album?

A test pressing of a radio interview disc with songs?

There's no mention of John Barry but the only titled tracks are "Los Angeles", "Electronic Dance" and "Professiinal Crumble" which ARE non Barry tracks in the film.

We've agreed it really needs playing to find out what's on it.

If it is the score I hope the labels preserve it on CD.

Cheers
