Here ya go, Thor! HOWARD (half-smirkingly): Jackie Rhoades. (Jerry silently responds with a neutral look at Howard, then--) Or John Rhoades, having shed his former dubious countenance as a nervous man in a four-dollar room. (This last remark has broken the ice) JERRY: How the hell do you know that? HOWARD: Hey, you may as well have said “Joe Mantell” and “Come on Jake, it’s Chinatown.” Or “Hey Marty, what'cha doin' tonight?” Gotta give you credit—who in their right mind would ever pick up on “John Rhoades.” JERRY: I wrote that score 40 years ago. How old were you 40 years ago? HOWARD: Well, Jim [Cleveland] back there once wrote a post on the website about Goldsmith through the decades—heh-heh, finishing with a Nietsche quote after which he concludes “Life without Goldsmith’s music would be intolerable”--and Yours Truly ends up responding with something about growing up at the same time your career’s taking off. The rest you can figure out. JERRY: No, I can’t, although I’ve seen ones like you. HOWARD: What do you mean “like you?” JERRY: I didn’t mean that as an insult. HOWARD: Sorry. What did you mean? JERRY: I mean there are some people who remember the most obscure things. HOWARD (conceding): Yes. Doesn’t mean it’s intentional.
