I saw on iMDb that Harold Kloser and another composer are listed for the music credit. Does anyone know why David Arnold is not returning? His score was iconic!

The director has been using Kloser/Wanker for years now. I'm guessing either Arnold wasn't asked or Arnold wasn't interested.

The "other" composer is Thomas Wanker, AKA: Thomas Wander, whose claim to fame is seasons five and six (except two or three episodes) of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

His real last name is Wander? Did he change it to Wanker when he learned he was being given ID4-2 over David Arnold?

(I kid, I kid...and no, I'm not above snatching low-hanging fruit)

I've often wondered if there was lingering friction over Arnold being passed over for The Patriot way back when.

I'm told that is very long story, but the bottomline is that SONY PICTURES didn't want to pay the creative fee that was being asked for him to do the film.

As one story goes the head of music at the time had lunch with John Williams who was available due to a project being delayed that he was supposed to do and was available and was interested in the project.

The Studio felt that if they had to pay for any one JOHN WILLIAMS was worth paying more for.

Whatever the case,They had a falling out and the director and Mr. Arnold have not worked together since then.

It happens.

A shame really. David seems to have been sidelined to Television work of late. This seem to begin when he was ousted in favor of director Sam Mendes' choice of composer Tommy Newman on Skyfall. I really like Arnold's work even away from bond. He always infused a great sense of melody and his action materiel was awesome at times. Perhaps he himself wanted a break from film scoring though he always seemed enthusiastic to the full about it.

David Arnold has said several times over the years that he would score a sequel if asked to, but confirmed on his Twitter account that he was never asked. All he could say was that since Fox owns the themes he wrote, Kloser and Wanker could use them if they wanted to.

Is ID4 Arnold's best original work? Having seen the film a few times there are distinctive moments where the music stuck. The movie wouldn't have hit all the right marks without it's distinctive symphonic score. Makes a world of difference.

Roland Emmerich just likes to piss people off these days by hiring lesser talent.

I hope they utilize the thematic material. Nothing irritates me more than sequel scores that ignore thematic continuity.

Very disappointing if this is the case - when I think of that movie, I think of David Arnold's score.

At least I'm lucky to have been in the audience with David conducting the end credits in concerts a couple of times now.

i watched/listened to a few of the clips and they continue with arnolds style.its missing the amazing dodd orchestrations, but there is a chance for this to be the best score they have done yet.pretty big shoes to full, maybe it inspired them.

One of his best, just due to sheer scope... but a lot of it seems to have started with Stargate. Both just incredibly fun scores. It's a shame he's not doing big franchise pictures currently, but I'm sure he'll be back on those.... and maybe he's enjoying the smaller scale work.

I don't think anyone's going to be able to get Randy Quaid back...

Oh I'm sorry, did you mean back for ID:R or back to reality?
