Get real, guys. 3D is not necessary for motion pictures. Colour isn't "necessary" either. It is if you want to know the "color" of something! Me not knowing the exact colour of Faye Ray's clothes in King Kong didn't alter my enjoyment of that movie one jot. The fact I couldn't see how deep a red Janet Leigh's blood was in Psycho didn't change my enjoyment of that film either. When I'm watching my all time favourite black & white movie White Heat, I don't know if the Trojan tanker is black, dark blue, green or red but it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of that film. Do I need colour? Nope, clearly not, it just enhances a movie for me. Do I need 3D? Nope, it just enhances a movie for me. What is your next argument, that sound isn't necessary for motion pictures either? Why stop there? Hell, Star Wars could probably be done using chalk drawings on a cave wall.

How did we get into whether a movie should have color, especially since I love black and white? So, 3D enhances a movie for you? That's nice -- for you! I already have to wear glasses just to see the movie in focus, so putting on extra glasses to see it in 3D is just a pain. In fact, sitting in a theater wearing two pairs of glasses is ridiculous. But, you're right, 3D is an enhancement -- BUT NOT A NECESSITY! On that I agree. 3D isn't a necessity any more than sound, colour, music, camera moves, set design, good acting, good directing or a decent script are. All of those things just enhance the experiance of cinema, nothing more, nothing less. However, by the same token, that doesn't make 3D the cinematic equivalent of perdition the way you have suggested it is. The vast majority - if not all - of recent movies offer the option of seeing the film in 3D or 2D. If you're happy seeing a film in the latter format, good for you. However, please at least acknowledge that for some of us, 3D - when done properly - enhances the cinematic experiance. By a considerable degree. Even for those of us who wear glasses.

We see in color. We hear sounds. It' the natural way to view films that are closer to our own life experience. (Sight and hearing impaired aside) Not only is 3D not a necessity, it isn't even an enhancement. Our eyes don't see the world the way 3D forces one to see them. Now if one wants to view films in such a skewed way, all the power to them.

Yeah, 3D is fake, so so fake! We humans don't see the world as if we were looking through an old View Master. The current 3D technology is unnecessary and a huge distraction. You people who like it and promote it and defend it are nothing more than 3D crack addicts! You're doing the artform a disservice -- and I'm ashamed of you! You've bought into the idiocy of the corporate mentality of greed that is distroying American film. Shame on you! Shame on all of you!!!!! This morning when The alarm went off, I could hear a a quiet orchestra played in the background. I got up and as I took a wee, weird credits were superimposed in front of me saying "Mike J Starring In - Man Goes To The Toliet". I flushed the loo and that weird background music suddenly soared into a strident March which accompanied me into the shower. As I stepped from the shower and reached for the towel, suddenly it was 4 hours later and I was in a suit, in my office. Oddly, my usual desk nick nacks had been replaced by items that clearly showed all their logos almost as if they were being advertised. Next, my secretary - who is stunning, with a perfect figure, no spots and wearing clothes that must have cost her thousands - came in and exchanged all sorts of witty, sexual innuendos with me - strangely, I didn't have any concerns about sexual harassment action from her. My secretary said a witty punch line and then my life jumped forward again - now I was in a car - not just any car but a million pound Ferrari, which I used to skip through traffic driving like a Formula 1 driver. As I zoomed down the road, I marvelled at how grounded in reality my life was and I thanked God, not just for that, but also that everything I looked at was totally realistic and not presented to me in that totally false an un-lifelike stereoscopic vision.
