No other artist wrote, performed and produced everything he recorded. He recorded over 3000 songs, many unreleased to this date, and i would say that over 30 of them are considered 'Classics', with others being sublime.
He also played guitar, bass, piano, percussion better than some of his backing performers. I've seen over 400 concerts, and over 200 different artists/bands, and Prince was the best, most charismatic performer i've ever seen.
I'm really crushed and saddened by his death, and this hasn't happened to me since Jerry Goldsmith's passing.
Popmusic has really lost one of the truly-greats ! ! !
In terms of being a musician, and virtuoso of being able to play so many different instruments with ease, particularly the guitar, and as a song writer, it would seem so, yes.

RIP Prince Rogers Nelson
Don't forget the other 'meta' layer of being able to package all these arts and crafts into an overall artistic persona and ethos. Many musicians can write individual songs, and play many instruments, arrange etc., but they don't know why, to what end, or for any goal other than their careers. He could make himself a work of art.
Apparently, Prince died of AIDS-related causes. He was able to deal with it up with medications up until about 2 years ago, then he got involved with the Jehovah's Witnesses, and they convinced him God had healed him, and he didn't need medications. So he stopped taking them, and his health declined, until he reached the point where it was too late.
So, religion killed him.
He became a JW in 2001, not "two years ago". Stating that "religion killed him" is inaccurate at best.
