Correct me if I'm wrong, but I had the impression that the limited edition soundtrack business isn't a huge profit-maker, and quite often a project will only break even, or make a loss. As much as I like sales, I would rather support Intrada at full price and help them to keep producing gems like this weeks Broughton and Rozsa releases.

That's what I thought. They arent Amazon or a car dealership who have sales all the time (which implies they're making alot of money or prices are too high). Seems like a couple guys in an office or basement den who sometimes post here. I guess that's why I dont feel like the labels owe me anything on their anniversary.

Yep, these labels barely make it as it is, you're never going to see Doug Fake driving around in a Porsche purchased from money made from their release of "Adventures in Babysitting". Some of you guys are far too entitled. Intrada has had sales before, but come on, give them some credit, they are a small business for a super small niche group of fans and it costs tens of thousands to produce these albums. And they have to still pay their normal company fees, employee salaries and benefits, put food on their tables, send kids to college, etc.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to that celebration in September, I'll be sure to attend!

I would buy a lot more Intrada CDs if they were 60% off, buy-one-get-one-free, with free FedEx Overnight shipping. And they would have the satisfaction of knowing that I own a lot their CDs as they wait in line at the soup kitchen.

LOL.

Just a little spotlight on our September 5th party, primarily for those people checking in about tickets for the "reception" part of the afternoon. The private part of the celebration happens, of course, with the industry professionals we've worked with over the years. Being in one room with twenty film composers, all at the same time, celebrating what we've accomplished, is certainly a once-in-a-lifetime happening for me. Golly. Maybe I can get, say, Chris Young and Bruce Broughton together to co-compose a score! John Debney and Lee Holdridge doing the same? Bruce Botnick as the scoring mixer? The possibilities boggle the mind. (Then I wake up.) In any case, some of these folks, and a whole lot more, might be available to visit with ticket holders during the reception we're having after the initial event. Maybe they'll even sign an autograph or two. Ticket holders for the reception will also get to savor a nice dessert buffet, fruits and veggies, take home a special souvenir program with lots of exclusive photos of us and the artists we've worked with over the years, enjoy a gift bag with a variety of items designed to simply commemorate our 30th Anniversary, a photo matte with our logo printed on it for using with photos taken during the reception, maybe even a CD or two we have hanging around here just for fun.

And for those of you that might be interested, this will be the first time you'll meet every one of the Intrada people all together, from both our part-time shipping clerks to our sales manager, from our long-time art director to our long-time mastering engineer, from our bookkeeper to our production manager, from our CFO to our Vice President... and - gee - even me, the President, though I'm better known around here as the Grand Poobah. (Not sure what that is, exactly. Hope it's good.) My wife, Mary Ann (who came up with the Poobah moniker and certainly helped me get this company off the ground) will be with us, our webmaster is coming - mostly to check out the culinary delights - and I believe my very first Canadian partner is attending. Overall, between those fabulous composers, orchestrators, other label executives, industry friends, liner note authors - and all of my crew in the same place at the same time - hopefully we won't run out of dessert.

By the way, our program booklet is of particular interest in that it will have numerous color photos that friends have asked me to "publish" for many years now so others could enjoy them. I finally found an excuse to do it. And it'll have a few words to read, too. Anyway, it's pretty cool. Since several folks have already asked, yes, this booklet is only being made available to the guests at the party and ticket holders at the reception. It won't be available online or otherwise. We're still sorting out some of the various reception details. It's actually like putting on some ginormous wedding. One part stress, two parts exhaustion, three parts getting the bride and groom ready... but what excitement this all is for us around here!

Also note that today is the actual 30th Anniversary! It was 30 years ago today that we released the LP of Red Dawn and we had the Poledouris signing at our old storefront on Vallejo St. in San Francisco. Can't believe it's been that long. Today is a good day to share any Intrada stories.

Or tell us in person at the reception in a couple of weeks. There are still some tickets left.

Also note that today is the actual 30th Anniversary!

Great Scott! Just like Marty McFly, I hope everyone there pleasantly realizes just how many surprises there are now unimaginable back in 1985. Congrats!

I sure hope this very special occasion will have at least one Intrada release that befits the anniversary. We shall
soon see. Here's hoping!

I wanted to chime in and share a few personal thoughts about Intrada on their special 30th Anniversary.

Among my very first Intrada CDs was their expanded re-issue of Jerry Goldsmith’s NIGHT CROSSING. I’d seen the film but couldn’t readily recall the music. At the time, I was expanding my repertoire of Goldsmith scores and this seemed to be the next logical addition.

I was immediately impressed by the sound quality and attention to detail that went in to preparation of the album. NIGHT CROSSING quickly became one of my foremost favourite Goldsmith scores and I would often revisit the album when evaluating Hi-Fi equipment or making changes to it.

NIGHT CROSSING is a dynamic score that is at times large and powerful as well as small and intimate. It’s a beautiful recording in which the listener can literally point to the seating position of each of the individual trumpet players. And that beautiful recording was made even better by the taste and restraint of Joe Tarantino in mastering it from the three-channel scoring masters.

Around the same time, I acquired THE GREAT ESCAPE and A PATCH OF BLUE and was also impressed by the sound quality and attention to detail in every aspect of these productions. It quickly became apparent that Intrada was a force to be reckoned with!

My shelves have continued to fill with Intrada discs over the years, including the most recent reissue of NIGHT CROSSING and some that I have been fortunate to work on with their team.

So, here we are on their special Anniversary celebrating 30 fabulous years of Intrada making many, many wonderful soundtrack albums that have touched our lives. Whether these scores have roused our emotions, brought us simple pleasure at the end of a busy day, or allowed us to engage in discourse with friends from around the globe, a steadfast element has been Intrada.

Bravo to Doug and his team of artistes, and here’s to the next 30 years!

Cheers
Chris

Roger, thanks to you and all the team for the many enjoyable nights spent listening to music from your signature and special editions through to the main and Disney - too many to choose from to pick a 'favourite'.

I wish I could travel down from Canada, but time and exchange rates are just not in our favour right now !

All the best for the 5th and congrats on the new loyalty program !

They have been responsible for so much great film music to get released, I'd definitely attend this celebration if I could. My first order from them was their Alien 2 CD release, that was in 2007 and they've since put out so many personal grails, overlooked gems as well as iconic scores essential to any collection, it's literally too much to list. I will say that I also appreciate how they've made Chris Young's scores available to fans through the many promos they produced, scores that would otherwise have not gotten a release or in some cases many years after the movie came out. This year alone they've released so much music I like, I like having that much choice with a label and hope that will continue for many years! Thank you.

Doug's Corner on the party:

9/10/2015

Everything about this last Saturday seemed like a dream. Intrada celebrated its 30th anniversary in the Founders Room at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The venue itself was simply spectacular! I visited with numerous composers, industry personnel, my favorite record label execs, authors and many other supporters of film music. The food was terrific. (I missed the desserts!) Our "Nailing The Moment" video presentation went beautifully, with precious moments ranging from Rozsa to Poledouris, from Goldsmith to Tiomkin, from Broughton to Holdridge, from Horner to Herrmann. The highlight of the event for me: Having Mary Ann step up to the mic and recall her memories of the two of us starting Intrada, then introducing me by way of Bruce Broughton, who also said very kind words about our friendship before turning the mic over to me. I'm not a public speaker. After their memories, giving a speech was one of the toughest tasks I can recall doing. Yes, even tougher than convincing Jerry Goldsmith to let us put the Main Title on our Night Crossing album. No joke.

Yes, the afternoon seemed like a dream. A dream come true. Every one of the Intrada hamsters were present and participated in the planning of this memorable party. I simply must single out Regina, though, who was truly the wizard behind the curtain, pulling most of the strings. Arranging the actual event at Disney, the food and beverage selection, the invitations and decor, the video system and the mic, the music that played throughout, all sorts of myriad details going right down to the logo-imprinted stress balls in the gift bags - yep, it was Regina's vision that ruled the day. It made her dad proud. And it surely put Intrada's best face forward for the afternoon.

Speaking of which, should anyone who attended the party have any followup questions, please feel free to email Regina. Happily, I can just ask her when we're at dinner.

I'm still humbled by the events of the day. I thank everyone who joined us. In fact, I sincerely thank everyone in the soundtrack community who helps us all make this world a better place.

Roger says

Hey all, a couple of videos for you to watch. The first are introductory comments from Mary Ann Fake, Bruce Broughton and the Grand Poobah himself. Doug explains why he became so passionate about starting a label and it's followed by a video with examples of the power of music in film.
