It's safe to say he was hit hard by the two. He had already said somewhere after Troy he would never work in Hollywood again except for Minghella, and then Minghella died. He also broke rank for the first time to criticise his removal from Troy and then leaked his score.
Horner's public comments on how appalling Yared's score was, were so vicious (and total BS) I'm convinced Yared contacted him with less than kind words before that. Unless Horner was simply burned by Yared leaking his score, universally considered far superior to Horner's. Not that it was a fair fight. Yared, at his peak, worked on it for a year. Horner, post peak, had less than three weeks.
But after that, Yared's magic touch seemed to desert him. Several scores were suddenly co-composed, and the quality dipped a lot IMHO. I've heard good things about The Prophet, but I heard similar things about The Promise where I thought he sounded totally uninspired. I don't expect him to hit his pre-Troy heights again, but I'd like to be surprised.
