I like this one too.My favourite piece is track 6-particularly the brass theme at the beginning.I think it only appears in this track (could be wrong, haven't played it in a while,I might now).

Could anyone please give me their opinions about "Far from Home - The Adventures of Yellow Dog" by John Scott, I'm thinking of buying it ? Thanks. It's OUTSTANDING. Amazing main theme that's given numerous rapturous iterations, including a few superb action interpolations. Gorgeous "family" theme that's heard often as well. Great suspense/action cues. Great outdoors pseudo-impressionistic writing. It's everything Scott does well all in one package. Don't hesitate on this one for a moment! The immense coda that closes the end title is one of my favorite send-offs ever. It's so damn grand! As for WALKING THUNDER - Yup, not much to add except that it's outstanding. Two great main themes, some awesome individual ideas throughout, amazing playing by the Philharmonia of London (if I recall correctly) and incredibly sumptuous, rich sound quality - all for a direct-to-video kids movie. A-plus material, baby! Does ANYONE recognize the gorgeous and VERY Scott-like theme heard in the opening twenty and closing twenty seconds of the film's trailer? It's not from Scott's score but boy-oh-boy it sounds like his "voice": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkTeZaZmrCE Oh and Kev, you'll love SHERGAR and 20,000 LEAGUES. These are some of his best-orchestrated scores, which is saying a lot since he is, bar none on my opinion, one of THE great symphonic orchestrators, ever.

Shergar is terrific. The final action cue is IMMENSE. Yea, that is a great cut indeed. The whole score is full of inspired touches. While I overall think ANTONY & CLEOPATRA is probably Scott's masterwork, he's a composer who, overall, only seemed to get better with age. GREYSTOKE sounds like a creative breakthrough in his mastery of both drama and the orchestra. Compare that to YOR, HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE from the year prior. PEOPLE THAT TIME FORGOT and FINAL COUNTDOWN have fantastic main themes, but don't hold up as well in the action departments - Nowhere near the action music he'd provide for KING KONG LIVES a few years later, for example. Still strong scores, but comparatively thin when compared to his post-1984 efforts. I think the only working composer who can truly rival Scott's gift is Michiru Oshima, who I regard as the female Miklos Rozsa. No one else comes close, really, especially not anyone working regularly in the Western canon of film music right now.

"...amazing playing by the Philharmonia of London (if I recall correctly)" ------------------------------ It's the Munich Symphony btw, but I know what you mean! Two short cues I REALLY love are The Bad Bunch and Utah. Just stunning. The Bad Bunch is every bit as cool as anything Jerry Goldsmith wrote in his pomp.
