I've listened to Texas Rising about eight times now... awesome how we got a pure throwback western score out of nowhere in 2015. This complements last year's A Million Ways to Die in the West well! As for the question about which composer scored which pieces, I can't help but hear Bruce Broughton's influence over at least 75-80% of the entire score. His orchestral flourishes (particularly the use of woodwinds) are all over it. I would guess Debney handled the two acoustic guitar tracks, which I find to be the most skippable ones in the soundtrack. It's great to have some vintage Bruce Broughton back! You know, as with A Million Ways..., I was kinda disappointed by this score for one reason and one reason only: It's so familiar. The rhythms, the chord progressions, the predictable counterpoint... It feels like a tired leftover from the tail end of the 90's. Now I LOVE me some Broughton and his Western style never fails to beguile me usually because me managed to AVOID those pitfalls... And Debney has certainly had his moments throughout the years... But this score, despite featuring all the "right" ingredients for this kind of work, doesn't quite stand on its own in my opinion. It's very high quality orchestral craftsmanship, but essentially uninspired and overly familiar in its writing. I'd sooner revisit John Scott's WALKING THUNDER or Mark Mckenzie's FRANK AND JESSE, two 90's Western scores comprised of all the "familiar ingredients" that still, regardless, manage to feel exciting and distinct. Or any of Broughton's efforts from that era, naturally. Just my opinion - Still a very nice work, just not one that fulfills the promise of its component parts.

So now that COSMOS happened on CD ... dare one hope for TEXAS RISING also? I have tried valiantly, but could not get any traction with the licensor.
