Anyone heard anything lately on whether a CD release is still planned for this one?

I've listened to Texas Rising about eight times now... awesome how we got a pure throwback western score out of nowhere in 2015. This complements last year's A Million Ways to Die in the West well! As for the question about which composer scored which pieces, I can't help but hear Bruce Broughton's influence over at least 75-80% of the entire score. His orchestral flourishes (particularly the use of woodwinds) are all over it. I would guess Debney handled the two acoustic guitar tracks, which I find to be the most skippable ones in the soundtrack. It's great to have some vintage Bruce Broughton back! smile

You know, as with A Million Ways..., I was kinda disappointed by this score for one reason and one reason only: It's so familiar. The rhythms, the chord progressions, the predictable counterpoint... It feels like a tired leftover from the tail end of the 90's. Now I LOVE me some Broughton and his Western style never fails to beguile me usually because me managed to AVOID those pitfalls... And Debney has certainly had his moments throughout the years... But this score, despite featuring all the "right" ingredients for this kind of work, doesn't quite stand on its own in my opinion. It's very high quality orchestral craftsmanship, but essentially uninspired and overly familiar in its writing.

I'd sooner revisit John Scott's WALKING THUNDER or Mark Mckenzie's FRANK AND JESSE, two 90's Western scores comprised of all the "familiar ingredients" that still, regardless, manage to feel exciting and distinct. Or any of Broughton's efforts from that era, naturally.

Just my opinion - Still a very nice work, just not one that fulfills the promise of its component parts.

I have tried valiantly, but could not get any traction with the licensor.

Man, I hate to hear that... it would be a fantastic expanded CD release! Bruce Broughton and John Debney knocked it out of the park. Count me as an insta-buy if it ever happens.

Here's hoping you have more traction with the upcoming Orville soundtrack by Bruce Broughton and Joel McNeely -- with Seth McFarlane being such a passionate film score fan I can't wait to see what these guys do in the fall! smile

Hopefully someone has enquired about ORVILLE by now...
with only some 6-7 weeks left it would be nice to know anything or have a pre-order available.

I'd like to thank Yavar for reminding me that this exists. Despite being a huge Broughton fan, I had never heard it, but I listened to it today. I can't disagree with those who carp (politely) that there are no surprises here – it is familiar through and through. Nonetheless, tuneful and very nicely done, and I enjoyed listening to it very much. Like everybody else, I'm curious about the division of labor between the two composers here, but that doesn't affect the listening.

Always happy to see this thread get a bump. Such a great old fashioned Western score with some killer action material that brings back some of Bruce Broughton's best western scores. smile

And of course it's not available where I live.

Great.

EDIT: oh, I see it's UMG. They're useless when it comes to releasing their film/tv related stuff outside the US.

Josh, that cover art needs your attention...

My review of this really good album:

http://www.movie-wave.net/texas-rising/

Excellent review, James.

Now I have to decide if I buy the download, or wait for the album. smile

Thankful for the reminder. Got an Itunes credit. I really should pick this up.

The miniseries was something of a disappointment, though I did like this score. Still about $14 bucks on Itunes and Amazon. (Links provided by Josh a few posts above mine).
