Bob, a few years ago I found a copy of the DVD and never having seen the film, I bought it (the fact that it was reduced to £2 helped me decide fairly quickly). Anyway, after seeing your post I've just dug it out and watched the main titles. As the Dave Grusin song plays over the credits, sure enough, there in white lettering on a black background is, Music by JOHNNY MANDEL, and underneath, in small lettering, ORIGINAL MUSIC COPYRIGHT 1982 TWENTIETH CENTURY-FOX MUSIC CORP. Fast-forwarding to the end title, the song again plays, but there are no references to music in any of the credits listing. Strangely enough, a few years later when I was in a little music shop in town, I came across a copy of the Varese CD, reduced to £4. So I bought that too!

The American Film Institute Catalog records the film's music credit just as you list it, right down to the copyright notice. Apparently, Fox made revisions to the credits very late in the game, both versions survive in the vaults, and both have been used for various video releases. I wonder if both versions played theatrically at different venues around the world?
