Great, and often moving, film and an incredible score. Looking through this, I think I must've got a different version than some lot of you. Some just can't appreciate the fine things until they no longer have them. C'est la vie.

Williams’ ‘The Force Awakens’ Wins 3 IFMCA Awards
February 18, 2016

INTERNATIONAL FILM MUSIC CRITICS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 2015 IFMCA AWARDS; JOHN WILLIAMS WINS THREE AWARDS FOR STAR WARS

The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) announces its list of winners for excellence in musical scoring in 2015, in the 2015 IFMCA Awards.

The award for Score of the Year goes to composer John Williams for his work on the massively popular and successful epic science fiction fantasy Star Wars: The Force Awakens from director J. J. Abrams. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also named Best Score for a Fantasy/Science Fiction/Horror Film, and wins the Film Music Composition of the Year award for the film’s conclusive end credits suite, “The Jedi Steps and Finale”. These are the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth IFMCA Awards of Williams’s career, and it marks the third time he has been awarded Score of the Year, after Memoirs of a Geisha in 2005, and War Horse in 2011.

I don't know if this means it's official or not, but the IMDB crew listing for Star Wars Episode VIII has John Williams' name as the composer, and SW VIII is also listed at his individual page at IMDB.

Sorry if it's been asked or pointed out before but does anyone know where the bits of music from the trailers was from, I grew to like a couple of those.

Like others here, but unlike some other others here, I happen to love this score. I've listened to it an awful lot in the last months, much more than any other CD I've gotten in a year or two. Just one man's emotional reaction.

I'm almost certain that the only piece of score used in the trailers was from the initial The Jedi Steps melody. And Williams didn't write music for a couple of the trailers.

Wish we could get our hands on that first trailer music... The one with the frenzied strings as Finn pops up in the desert. Was that an original Williams piece? Sure sounded like him.

Ah right. I just wondered if it had been adapted or written for the trailers or was sourced from elsewhere - a computer game or cartoon or something.

One thing I can say for The Force Awakens is that "The Rathtars!" has whet my appetite more than ever for a C&C release of The Lost World. Whenever that track plays I just want the whole album to be The Lost World.

I too think this score is excellent. I have been listening to it while on the treadmill at the gymn for well over a month now and it has proven a most worthwhile listening experience.

Many men's emotional reaction, apparently, mine included. It's been years since I kept listening and listening again to a single album. But now that I've written this I'm going to have to listen to this one again!

Me too. I can't recall such a long honeymoon period.

It took me a while to get into it save primarily for Rey's Theme and quite a while to appreciate March of the Resistance, but now whenever I decide to listen to music, this score jumps up and yells "Pick me!"

I gave it another listen at the weekend. 'Rey's Theme' and 'The Jedi Steps' are all that is standing out for me so far, so maybe it's getting there. I will however say at this stage I like it more than 'War Horse'wink

I found Rey's theme to be my 'way in' too (aside from the old theme quotes), but over time, I've really grown to love the Resistance March and Poe's theme (when it makes it's all too brief appearances). Kylo Ren's main 5 note baddie theme is pretty cool too! I think of Finn's theme as more of an action motif than a theme, but it still excites me.
I canna wait for JW to develop and enhance some of these themes in Episode 8.

I really want a full-length track that utilizes the end credit version of Kylo Ren's theme.

I find this surprising, as I think TFA and WAR HORSE are two of the strongest scores thematically of Williams' canon in the 2000's.
